Gastric acid secretion ligands

The Hi Receptor and its Ligands. The H receptor mediates effects, through an increase in cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP). such as gastric acid secretion relaxation of airway smooth muscle and of pulmonary vessels increased lower airway mucus secretion esophageal contraclion inhibition of basophil, but not mas cell histamine release inhibition of neutrophil activation and induction or suppressor T cells. There is no evidence that the H- receptor causes significant modulation of lung function in the healthy human subject or in the asthmatic. 

A synopsis of the most important data concerning H3 receptors and gastric acid secretion is reported in Tables 1 and 2. Table 3 reports the effects of H3 ligands on hormonal or paracrine secretions which are directly or indirectly connected with acid secretion. 

Gastrin and cholecystokinin receptor ligands consisting of lH-imidazole-4-yl-benzooxazole derivatives, (II), prepared by Kalindjian (3) were effective in controlling excess gastric acid secretion. 

There is, therefore, a remarkable number of ligands used to control acid secretion in the gastric mucosa, showing that the process of digestion of food has been refined over the course of evolution to a remarkably exact system. 

The various ligands that have been shown to affect functions of isolated gastric cells. All of these also affect acid secretion in vivo, but understanding of their pathways has required studies on isolated cells, glands, and organs.
