Gasifier description

The first anhydride plant in actual operation using methyl acetate carbonylation was at Kingsport, Tennessee (41). A general description has been given (42) indicating that about 900 tons of coal are processed daily in Texaco gasifiers. Carbon monoxide is used to make 227,000 t/yr of anhydride from 177,000 t/yr of methyl acetate 166,000 t/yr of methanol is generated. Infrared spectroscopy has been used to foUow the apparent reaction mechanism (43). [Pg.77]

Background Indirect coal liquefaction differs fundamentally from direct coal hquefaction in that the coal is first converted to a synthesis gas (a mixture of H9 and CO) which is then converted over a catalyst to the final product. Figure 27-9 presents a simplified process flow diagram for a typical indirect coal hquefaction process. The synthesis gas is produced in a gasifier (see a description of coal gasifiers earlier in this section), where the coal is partially combusted at high temperature and moderate pressure with a mixture of oxygen and steam. In addition to H9 and CO, the raw synthesis gas contains other constituents (such as CO9, H9S, NH3, N9, and CHJ, as well as particulates. [Pg.2375]

The Texaeo Gasifieation proeess is a eontinuous, entrained flow, pressurised, non-eatalytie partial oxidation process in whieh earbonaeeous solids, liquids or gases reaet with oxygen. Gasification breaks the polymer ehains and eonverts the hydroearbons to their simplest forms. A detailed description is given of the proeess and its eommereial applieation. The proeess is a eommereially... [Pg.105]

The influences of various gasifier types on the product composition are summarized in Figure 3.1. A brief description of each type of gasifier is provided in Table 3.1. [Pg.123]

Brief Process Description. Suitably sized wood blocks are fed to a fixed bed gasifier operating essentially at atmospheric pressure. The gasifier is fired with pure oxygen at a rate of about 0.4 tons/ton of methanol product. After heat recovery, the gas is blown through a Lymn washer where the tar and water soluble organics and salts are removed by countercurrent contact with water. [Pg.152]

The fluidized bed coal gasifier computer model is designed to provide a description of the hydrodynamic mixing and coupled chemistry within the reactor. This model should permit a designer to predict bubble size,... [Pg.178]

The same model description will be used as the basis for deriving the gasifier dynamic model. All of the kinetic and thermodynamic parameters will be taken from Stillman ( 7, 8). [Pg.334]

The gasifier and the surrounding systems are illustrated in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2. This section gives a detailed description of each element. [Pg.429]

Description of the Prototype Unit. As proof of concept, a facility was constructed in association with a conventional refuse transfer station. The plant is comprised of two modules, a 15 TPH RDF system in conjunction with a 1 TPH fluidized bed gasifier. A flow diagram is shown in Figure 1. [Pg.341]

A more detailed description of the gasification of solid waste is presented elsewhere [4]. It is possible to construct the gasifier simply from brickwork and steel, see figure 2, and it has no moving parts. [Pg.677]

Process Description. Figure 5-9 is a sketch of the pressurized, downflow, entrained Texaco gasifier with both the direct quench and gas cooler designs. The feed coal is crushed and slurried in wet rod mills. The slurry water consists of recycled condensate from raw gas cooling together with makeup water. For bituminous coals with low inherent moisture, the slurry concentration is 60-70 weight percent (wt%) dry coal. [Pg.170]
