Garment sizing and fit

An example of a fit specification page of the tech-pack, as shown in Figure 2.6, provides standard graded measurements for aU the sizes (also called the size chart). This also includes the point of measurements (POM) indicating how to measure each finished garment measurement accurately. A tolerance is provided for each measurement, allowing production flexibility and fit quality control during production. 

The price of body scanners has come down by 50—75% with improved portability. Body scanning is not the full solution to the fit problem, but can assist in a way that can provide not only body measurements but also other solutions such as 3D digital body models for e-fitting and garment-size prediction for consumers. Sizing is not standardized in the apparel industry, but is one of the main concerns for consumers and the manufacmrers. Several products that are stated to be the same size are compared in each area of the important dimensions (chest, waist, sleeve length, etc.) for conformance to a company s stated size requirements. Fit is related to size, but the same garment can fit differentiy on different body types. Live models or mannequins are used to see how the same garment fits on different shapes.
