Nitrogen Dioxide. Nitrogen dioxide can be formed in the gasifier from the nitrogen present in the coal. Since N02 is an acid gas, it was included in the study as a potential poison. This study was conducted with C150-1-03 in the electric furnace reactor unit. The catalyst was tested under primary wet gas conditions with up to 8 ppm N02 in the dry feed gas. Table XIV provides a synopsis of the test results. [Pg.67]

Hexachlorobenzene, shown in Figure 8.3, reacts further to chlorophenols and PCDD/F, which stay adsorbed on the copper species but can be further extracted in the turbular furnace reactor. All low volatile chlorinated compounds shown in Figure 8.3 are eluted with the gas flow. The lower... [Pg.180]

Ferroniobium can be produced from the ore pyrochlore in batch process by thermal reduction in a refractory-bned steel or preferably an electric furnace reactor. Aluminum powder is used as a reducing agent. A mixture of niobium... [Pg.628]

The use of solar energy in chemical processing has also been investigated. Studies describe, for example, the cycloaddition reaction of a carbonyl compound to an olefin carried out in a solar furnace reactor (91) or oxidation of 4-chlorophenol in a solar-powered liber-optic cable reactor (92). The concept of using solar light for the synthesis of e-caprolactam was evaluated, and it was shown that the return on investment was better than for the conventional technology (93). Solar reactors can also be used advantageously in water treatment plants (94). [Pg.38]

All of these roasting furnace reactors operate continuously. They are noncatalytic gas-solid heterogeneous reactors. The multiple hearth has characteristics similar to plug flow operation. The flash roaster approaches CSTR, and the third option is a fluidized bed configuration. [Pg.480]

The application of the "tendency to smoke" to the manufacture of carbon blacks is discussed in detail by Austin (4). The relationship of aromaticity, as expressed by the BMCI, is discussed as it correlates with yield of carbon black produced in a furnace reactor. [Pg.278]

These feedstocks were tested in a number of carbon black furnace reactors employing different geometries and different operating conditions. The experiments were designed to develop data for correlation between feedstock composition, yield, production rate, and properties of carbon black produced. The physical properties of the carbon blacks were measured as were the properties of uncured rubber compounds and vulcanizates in standard test recipes. [Pg.279]

Limiting our discussion to a carbon black manufacturing system for the production of tread grades in a furnace reactor, these systems have been discussed in detail in a number of articles, viz., Smith and Bean (35), Austin (4), Burgess (5), and Stokes (36), just to name a few. [Pg.279]

We are now operating furnace reactors with feedstock feed rates as low as 5 gal/hour. The larger reactors have feed rates of several hundred gal/hour, with the largest operating at about 1000 gal/hour. All of the process parameters are consistent and the products produced are interchangeable. [Pg.296]

Decomposition of complex metal organic molecules are t3 ically endothermic reactions performed in furnace reactors. An example of a furnace decomposition is the thermal decomposition of dimethyl— chloro-silane to give silicon caihide [6] ... [Pg.262]

For a furnace reactor with a diameter of 2 cm and a length of 10 cm from the gas mixing point to the point of quendng, the flow rate is 1 liter per minute at a temperature of 2600°C. Determine the geometric standard deviation of the particle size distribution assuming the multipoint nudeation model. What can you do to make a narrow particle size distribution ... [Pg.304]

It has been suggested that the design and operational practices for cracking furnace reactors can be put to use for heat supply to inorganic membrane reactors [Tsotsis et al., 19931. Having sufficient electrical conductivity at typical reaction temperatures for dehydrogenation reactions, ceramic membranes allow the use of electric current through... [Pg.518]
