The supramolecular assembly of (3-cyclodextrin-capped AuNPs on ITO previously coated with a monolayer of ferrocene molecules was shown to exhibit interesting redox properties, as presented in Figure 8.5.25 This is a fine example of the functionalization of a nanoparticle with a functionalized recognition element to create a unique supramolecular scaffold with tailor-made properties. Specifically, the electrocatalytic determination of ascorbic acid was demonstrated by this surface assembly with excellent discrimination over dopamine.

The star-construction test examines the patient s psychomotor function, recognition of shapes, and shortterm memory. A test sheet (s. fig. 10.4) is presented to the patient, who is requested to look at the five-pointed star drawn on it for about 10 seconds (E.A. Davidson et ah, 1956). Dynamic covalent polymers involve the implementation of DCC in polymer chemistry. They result from the polycondensation of monomers bearing suitable reactive groups via reversible chemical reactions under functional recognition. 

Modification of electrode surfaces with polymer is seeking the same objective as with monolayers, i.e., the improvement of the analytical performances in terms of selectivity and sensitivity.
