Function client

The best way to ensure controlled development of the brief, and of the cost plans which necessarily accompany it, is to set up a system of data sheets which define, in increasing detail as the project develops, the spatial, functional and servicing requirements of each component part of the project. A well-resourced technical client may wish to do this himself. More commonly, it is a task which should be entrusted to the design team. Whoever does it, regular joint review of this information will help to ensure satisfaction with the finished product. 

Objective, measurable criteria are always best, while subjective criteria are risky and subject to interpretation. There should be no room for doubt or ambiguity, although this is often difficult to achieve. It is also important to be clear about what the project output is expected to accomplish. For instance, these three outcomes may produce entirely different results the project/product performs the specified functions it was built according to approved design or it solves the client s problem.

Hsp90 is a molecular chaperon required for the refolding of proteins in cells exposed to environmental stress. It contains an ATP-binding pocket in its amino terminus. Several natural products, for example radicicol (230) (Scheme 48), bind to this pocket and inhibit its chaperon function, which is mirrored in enhanced proteosomal degradation of Hsp90 client proteins, so that compounds like 230 are of interest as novel anticancer agents. 

The task of the DRA is to serve the public. Its operations must therefore be transparent to both clients (e.g. drug manufacturers) and consumers. Communication with clients should be a routine activity throughout the regulatory process. Information regarding its functions and the results of decisions should also be communicated regularly to the public.

This discussion brings us to the function of suicidal behavior. For some people, the function of suicidal behavior is to die, but not for everyone. Clearly the most lethal attempts represent a clear intent to die, especially if done in secrecy. However, many other times self-harm behavior is found to have a function besides death after a comprehensive behavioral analysis is completed with a client. For example, some clients have told me that cutting and burning themselves was related to boredom, anger, sadness, shame, uncertainty how to solve a problem, or even revenge toward someone who had hurt them. There also are numerous highly regarded, creative, and sophisticated tests to assess attention, concentration, and ECF, and these tests usually have manuals with age-corrected norms and sometimes provide sample test profiles of people with drug problems to compare with your client s profile. The WMS, for example, has a section that assesses attention and concentration in addition to memory functions. Another well-known attention and concentration test is the Symbol-Digit Modalities Test (Smith, 1991). Some of the more well-known measures of ECF and related cognitive functions include the Wisconsin Card Sorting... 

Engelhart et al., 1999). This instrument assesses many more areas of cognitive function than does the MMSE. I Iowever, as a screening tool, it too has limits to what it can tell you. My recommendation is that if a client of yours screens positive for a cognitive problem on one of these measures, you refer that client for a comprehensive neuropsychological workup as part of the treatment plan. Note that sometimes a person will screen positive during detoxification, but will clear cognitively after that period is finished. You should probably retest after detox has been completed if the client screens positive while in detox. 

A tenth type of thinking error involves the content behind should or must statements. Should or must statements are detected in a client when she or he acts in a certain way because of a personal rule about life. Personal rules often develop as a result of personal experiences in some cases, rules about life are taught to or indoctrinated into the client by others. The problem is not necessarily the rules so much as their rigidity of application. A rule may have been functional (or helpful to the client) in the past, but no longer functions well in the present or a rule may be functional in some situations but not if applied universally, as some clients will do. Some examples of rules might include I have to be perfect or I have to take care of (fill in the name or role) or perhaps It is my obligation...
