The PEPS Gasification system offers the capability to convert a petroleum refinery by-product into valuable, ultra-clean liquid fuels. Alternately, the system can be modified to generate hydrogen, another valuable clean fuel. These fuels could reduce the nation s dependence on imported oil. Preliminary design for a 25 TPD Clean Fuels PEPS pilot unit has been completed, as has some risk reduction testing. Future funding for completion of the project is... 

Waste materials such as municipal solid waste, scrap tires, and waste plastics have traditionally been placed in sanitary landfills. However, with landfill space rapidly decreasing in the United States and worldwide, an alternative disposal method for these waste materials becomes imperative. The recycling of solid wastes is a challenging problem, with both economic and environmental constraints. Recently, two broad approaches have been attempted to reclaim solid wastes. The first approach relies on thermal or catalytic conversion of waste materials into fuel and valuable chemical feedstocks. Examples of this approach include gasification, pyrolysis, depolymerization, and liquefaction. The second approach relies on the physical recovery of valuable ingredients in the waste materials. 

The view at Cadmium changed with time starting from a valuable resource and ending up as a toxic element with a limited number of applications not substituted by alternative products. The decontamination of the technosphere works to a certain extent. Due to the character of Cd as trace contamination of phosphate fertilizers and of Zn ores and fossil fuels, there is no final solution for the environmental contamination. Due to the restrictions issued in many countries, there is reason to fear that Cd could end up in unknown material streams. From an analysis of the refining of Zn ores in 2002, it has been concluded that about one quarter of Cd generated as by-product ( 7,000-8,000 Mg) could not be found either in the products analyzed or in the emissions from the process [27]. 

In conclusion, model compound studies have contributed valuable information for our understanding of the structure and reactivity of the enzymatic centre by probing the chemical possibilities. But apart from the help in the complete understanding of the catalytic principle, they also point to potential alternatives for functional catalysts, which are needed for the cheap production of hydrogen on a large scale to meet the increased demand expected after its introduction as a fuel in the future (Chapters 9 and 10). 

Therefore, alcohols have begun to be considered as valuable alternative fuels, because they have a high energy density (6-9 kW h kg, compared with 3 3 kW h kg ...

The material losses of alternate RDF processing plants depend mainly on the sophistication and plant.
