Naturally occurring oxaarenes based on polycyclic pyrans encompass a plethora of structures including the plant polyphenols such as anthocyanins and a-tocopherol (vitamin E). Halogenated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans are formed both as by-products during the manufacture of chlorophenols, and from the incineration of organic matter in the presence of inorganic halides. [Pg.553]

Dialkylamino derivatives of elements located in the periodic table to the left or below those listed above cannot be prepared by the above method due to either the ionic character of some of the inorganic halides or the formation of stable metal halide-amine addition products. Therefore, other methods must be applied. Dialkylamino derivatives of tin7 and antimony8 are conveniently obtained by reaction of the corresponding halides with lithium dialkylamides. Others, such as the dialkylamino derivatives of aluminum,9 are made by the interaction of the hydride with dialkylamines. Dialkylamino derivatives of beryllium10 or lithium11 result from the reaction of the respective alkyl derivative with a dialkylamine. [Pg.132]

In a 2-1. round-bottom flask fitted with a reflux condenser and an efficient glass stirrer, are placed 700 cc. of 95 per cent ethyl alcohol, 100 g. of recrystallized p-tolylmercuric chloride (p. 99), and 160 g. of sodium iodide (80 per cent excess). This mixture is boiled with vigorous stirring (Note 2) for fifteen hours the solid does not entirely enter into solution at any time. The mixture is then thoroughly cooled and filtered by suction and the solid washed with water until free of inorganic halide. It is then dried in an air-oven at 40° and recrystallized from 500 cc. of boiling xylene (Note 3). In this way 45-50 g. (78-85 per cent of the theoretical amount) of a product melting at 238° is obtained. [Pg.65]

Inorganic fluorine compounds are of considerable interest and importance not only because fluorides of nearly all known elements, including some of the rare gases, have been synthesized, but because a number of these compounds are quite different from other halides. Consider, for example, compounds SF4 and SF6 and their chloro analogs. The SF6 is chemically a very inert and a very stable compound, whereas SF4, also quite stable, is quite reactive. The corresponding tetrachloride molecule is stable only at low temperatures, whereas the hexachloride molecule is nonexistent. [Pg.231]

Hydrochloric acid is of great importance and is widely used in industrial processes. The largest use is in the metallurgical industry for the pickling of metals to remove oxide scales. The sorption capacities range from 3.0 for amines, such as triethylamine, to 7.1 and 8.1 for inorganic acids and inorganic halides, such as nitric acid and phosphorus trichloride, respectively. Therefore, the sorption capacity of expanded minerals is far superior to that of clay and diatomite. However, this material is more expensive than clay but cheaper than diatomite.
