Formulation silane

Trialkyltin substituents are also powerful ipso-directing groups. The overall electronic effects are similar to those in silanes, but the tin substituent is a better electron donor. The electron density at carbon is increased, as is the stabilization of /S-carbocation character. Acidic cleavage of arylstannanes is formulated as an electrophilic aromatic substitution proceeding through an ipso-oriented c-complex. ... [Pg.589]

In primer formulations for adhesive bonding of metals, the coupling agents that are most frequently used are those based on epoxy and amine functionalities. Aqueous solutions of aminosilanes have been successfully used for obtaining stable adhesive bonds between epoxy and steel [10] and epoxy and titanium [11,12], while epoxy functional silanes are preferable for applications involving aluminum substrates [13,14], A simple solution of % epoxy functional silane in water is currently used for field repairs of military aircraft [15] where phosphoric acid anodization would be extremely difficult to carry out, and performance is deemed quite acceptable. [Pg.437]

Two-part room temperature condensation cure. Silicone can be formulated into two-part systems [3,12,14,33] that prevent the reactive groups from coming into contact before they are needed. The reactions in these systems are based on the condensation of a silanol group with an alkoxy silane group, catalyzed by organo-tin compounds (Scheme 9). [Pg.684]

Various additives and fillers may be employed. Calcium carbonate, talc, carbon black, titanium dioxide, and wollastonite are commonly used as fillers. Plasticizers are often utilized also. Plasticizers may reduce viscosity and may help adhesion to certain substrates. Thixotropes such as fumed silica, structured clays, precipitated silica, PVC powder, etc. can be added. Adhesion promoters, such as silane coupling agents, may also be used in the formulation [69]. [Pg.797]

Hydrosilation reactions have been one of the earlier techniques utilized in the preparation of siloxane containing block copolymers 22,23). A major application of this method has been in the synthesis of polysiloxane-poly(alkylene oxide) block copolymers 23), which find extensive applications as emulsifiers and stabilizers, especially in the urethane foam formulations 23-43). These types of reactions are conducted between silane (Si H) terminated siloxane oligomers and olefinically terminated poly-(alkylene oxide) oligomers. Consequently the resulting system contains (Si—C) linkages between different segments. Earlier developments in the field have been reviewed 22, 23,43> Recently hydrosilation reactions have been used effectively by Ringsdorf 255) and Finkelmann 256) for the synthesis of various novel thermoplastic liquid crystalline copolymers where siloxanes have been utilized as flexible spacers. Introduction of flexible siloxanes also improved the processibility of these materials. [Pg.46]

Lenses with a greater degree of gas permeability were designed in the mid-1970s using siloxane-based monomers. For example, a copolymer of methyl methacrylate and the monomer known as methacryloxypropyl tris(trimethylsiloxy-silane) or TRIS (Fig. 14.6.2) was formulated in 1975 to provide a number of desir-... [Pg.222]

Following the determination of the geometry and the thermochemistry of transition states, the rate parameters for the two silane decomposition pathways can be obtained directly by the TST formulation presented earlier. These calculations have led to unimolecular rate constant expressions 10 exp(-91000/RT)s-S and 10 exp(-62000/l r)s" for Si-H bond scission and H2 elimination reactions, respectively. These results clearly... [Pg.155]

The FPL- or SAA-prepared coupons and panels were Immersed for 30 min In an aqueous (or aqueous/alcohollc) Inhibitor solution at room temperature, followed by rinsing In distilled, deionized water and forced air drying. Coverage levels of phosphonate and silane Inhibitors were determined by XPS from the surface concentration ratios of their characteristic elements, P/Al or Sl/Al, respectively. Selected organosllanes were applied to the metal surface by spraying, after dissolution (0.1 - 0.5%, v/v) In the EPON-Versamld primer formulation. [Pg.237]

In contrast, hydrolyzed silane compounds, presumably adsorbed as oligomeric films, confer corrosion resistance in both hydrating and Cl environments. These inhibitors can also couple with applied epoxy primer or adhesive formulations to further protect the metal against corrosion by strengthening the metal-epoxide bond. The organosilanes do not appear to affect the curing process, e.g., % crosslinking, of the polymeric epoxy systems. [Pg.248]
