Forklift inspections

If forklift operators are required to perform their own forklift inspection, then they must be trained to do the inspections. 

If your company has a forklift inspection checklist bring in copies to pass around to the trainees. Go over the checklist and answer any questions that come up. Ask the trainees if there is an3dhing else that should go on the checklist. If you don t have a sample checkhst have the trainees come up with one.

Because daily inspection sheets are not required by OSHA, employers should keep them according to whichever system works best at their company. Also, as part of a forklift program, it is a good idea to write a company policy stating the specified duration for which such records are kept (e.g., We retain forklift inspection sheets for six months. )... 

Workers are also responsible for knowing and understanding those workplace rules that apply to them. Workers should never say they understand the rules if they do not know them. Ongoing inspection of equipment, such as a daily forklift inspection, is the responsibility of the worker assigned to the equipment. Teams or committees should be involved in production and safety functions, etc. 

Most of these items are a part of each forklift inspection program. Following is a detailed description of these key inspection points. 

It must also be pointed out that unsafe conditions can be created as a result of unsafe behavior. To cite a conunon situation containing both of these elements, a focus on forklift inspections is needed. 

Daily forklift inspections are required both as a regulatory practice and as a best practice. A forklift was leaking hydraulic fluid from a hose. The operator failed to inspect his lift truck for several weeks. Hydraulic fluid collected under the lift truck wherever it was parked. The slippery hydraulic fluid caused a fellow worker to slip and fall. He suffered a serious back injury as a result. 

This definition of a job identifies a sequence of definite steps or separate activities that together accomplish a work goal. The jobs have in common the fact that they involve a sequence of steps of work. When the last step is completed, a work goal has been completed (e.g., the truck is loaded, the pallets are stacked, the conveyor is loaded, the forklift inspection is completed, and so on). Again, JHA applies to jobs or tasks, not occupations.
