Considerably more work is required before these techniques can he introduced in court, hut our studies and the work of others show that photoluminescence techniques have potential for wide application in forensic science. Indeed, because of the significant advances demonstrated in recent years, one can expect to see spectrophotofluorometers become as commonplace as infrared spectrometers in a crime laboratory. In order to prepare a diverse-stimuli responsive chemiluminescent probe, the SNS system was derivatised with luminol, a very well-known luminescent compound with applications in analytical, biotechnological and forensic sciences. PSNS-luminol (10) is not fluorescent, but is chemiluminescent after reaction with H2O2 and cations like Cu, Fe, Cd and Pb. Due to these characteristics, PSNS-luminol can be applied to the detection of reactive ojq gen species and different cations, as shown in Fig. 5. [Pg.33]
