For Libra

For Libra, life would be much more pleasant without the irksome necessity of work. Because your aesthetic sense is directly related to your mood, it s imperative that your workspace be clean and airy with plenty of opportunities for face-to-face socializing. Finding an environment that supports you both intellectually and socially is equally important. You aren t enormously ambitious, perhaps because you underrate yourself. Money is seldom your chief motivation, but you know what you re worth, and you re confident enough to ask for the recognition you deserve. Still, the day-to-day quality of your work is what matters most. [Pg.71]

During the twenty years, he wrote in 1267, that I have spent in the study of wisdom after abandoning conventional methods, I have spent more than 2000 libra on secret books and various experiments, and on languages and instruments and astronomical tables, etc. The Paris libra was about one third of a pound sterling a considerable sum in his time for the Franciscan monk. [Pg.257]

In cases where the major resistance is in the liquid phase, the ratio RL/ RT= 1 and the simplification can be made that the over-all coefficient is equal to the liquid film coefficient. Which resistance dominates has to be determined from the ratio kLa / (kGa Hc) (Table 3-3). For compounds with a low Hc such as semi-volatile organic compounds, both resistances can be important (Libra, 1993). In oxygen transfer the liquid-side resistance dominates and KLa = kLa. This is also true for most of the cases in ozone mass transfer, unless there is strong mass transfer enhancement by very fast or instantaneous reactions of... [Pg.87]

Some useful correlations which can be used for a first approximation of the kLa s or c s in laboratory-scale ozone reactors can be found in Dudley (1995) for bubble columns, and Libra (1993) for STRs. Various correlations found in the literature, empirical as well as those based on theoretical or dimensional analysis, have been compared to results from their own experiments. Dudley concluded that correlations based on theoretical support performed better than those developed by curve-fitting. [Pg.92]

Previously the author had proposed a more expressive sign, (the sign of constellation Libra or balance), for this purpose. It turned out, however, that its use caused difficulties in typesetting. [Pg.224]

Falk and Giguere frequencies the librational frequencies of H30+ were assumed to be the same as those in water. When using the Rudolph and Zimmermann frequencies the cited values were used for the libra-tions. In both cases the restricted translations were assumed to be isotopically insensitive. The even more simplified approximations of Bunton and Shiner (1961a) give a value of 0-73 for l. [Pg.88]

Comment. This position has now been filled, through interdepartmental transfer, by a chemist who had developed a keen interest in literature work and was also pleased with the opportunity for promotion from within. The solution indicates that the person might not have accepted the transfer had not the salary and status been comparable with laboratory work. It is to be hoped that each will increase proportionately with the incumbent s experience and capabilities, since high morale is just as important to the literature chemist as it is to other human beings. It is also understood that this transfer did not involve a misfit in another department — a complaint one often heard when libra-rians first became vocal over the lack of qualified personnel - As for the inability of three unsuccessful individuals to understand the function of company library service, could it be possible that each did not possess the innate capacity to grasp its significance If true, then an excellent case is made for more careful selection of library school candidates. A similar complaint involving two chemists is reported in the next abstract. [Pg.7]

The ACM and PCM tests were developed and patented by Libra Laboratories (USA). Oil Process Systems of Allentown, PA also known as Mir-Oil, owns the patent and distribution rights for the testing devices. The ACM test measures alkaline contaminant materials, which include soaps. The PCM measures polar contaminant materials (accumulated polar compounds). These tests provide results that could be used at the restaurants. However, the test units are relatively expensive and the restaurants tend to avoid using them after the initial introduction of the device. [Pg.2255]

H-bonds. In the former case, OH frequencies increase with increasing temperature, i.e., dvon/dT > 0, because the H-bonds are weakened as a result of the thermal expansion of the lattice. In the latter case, the temperature shift of the OH bands is negative, dvon/ dT < 0, since such bonds are strengthened with increasing amplitude of the H2O libra-tional modes. However, for symmetrically bifurcated H-bonds, i.e., if all O, H, and the acceptor groups are located in one plane and the distances to the two acceptors are equal (see Fig. 2), a positive temperature coefficient (as in the case of linear bonds) must be produced This is, in fact, found, e.g., in BaCl2 H20 . ... [Pg.112]

So far, we have only separated out the HX vibrational motion. Generally, such a solution of the stationary Schiodinger equation is not computationally feasible for clusters with more atoms. Therefore, other approximations have to be employed. At the same time, all phenoniena important for the cluster structure have to be properly included. We have performed an adiabatic separation of the HX libra-tional motion from the motion of the heavy particles, i.e., from the cage modes. Moreover, the cage modes have been calculated within the harmonic approach, i.e., by a diagonalization of the Hessian matrix. Formally, the wavefunction is expressed as... [Pg.471]

Depending on the character of the molecular motions, one can distinguish several physical situations. In most cases, the molecules are trapped in relatively deep potential wells. Then, they perform small translational and orientational oscillations around well-defined equilibrium positions and orientations. Such motions are reasonably well described by the harmonic approximation. The collective vibrational excitations of the crystal, which are considered as a set of harmonic oscillators, are called phonons. Those phonons that represent pure angular oscillations, or libra-tions, are called librons. For some properties it turns out to be necessary to look at the effects of anharmonicities. Anharmonic corrections to the harmonic model can be made by perturbation theory or by the self-consistent phonon method. These methods, which are summarized in Section III under the name quasi-harmonic theories, can be considered to be the standard tools in lattice dynamics calculations, in addition to the harmonic model. They are only applicable in the case of fairly small amplitude motions. Only the simple harmonic approximation is widely used the calculation of anharmonic corrections is often hard in practice. For detailed descriptions of these methods, we refer the reader to the books and reviews by Maradudin et al. (1968, 1971, 1974), Cochran and Cowley (1967), Barron and Klein (1974), Birman (1974), Wallace (1972), and Cali-fano et al. (1981). [Pg.132]

A more significant problem arises when you have no idea what time you were born. I have a beloved friend, one of many children, who never knew her birth time. And then one day, things got rapidly worse. During an astonishing conversation with an older sister, she discovered that no one in her family could vouch with 100 percent certainty for the day of her birth — or even the month. Suddenly she wasn t sure whether she was a Libra (no way) or a Scorpio (yes). This rare situation is an astrologer s worst-case scenario. [Pg.23]

For instance, consider the horoscope of rocker Bruce Springsteen, born September 23, 1949. On that day, the Sun moved from analytical Virgo to Libra, the sign of relationships. Which one is he According to the table at the back of this book, the Sun made its move that day at 4 06 a.m. eastern standard time (EST). (All the tables in this book are EST.) Bruce was born well after that, at 10 50 p.m. So he s a Libra. [Pg.30]

What a bundle of contradictions Libra can be. On the one hand, you re ruled by seductive Venus, and relationships are essential to you. Longing for love, you instinctively look to romantic partners to balance your inadequacies and stabilize you. On the other hand, you re an air sign, ruled by your head — not your heart. Thanks to your refined sensibilities and visceral distaste for tear-soaked melodramas, you unconsciously preserve a distance meant to protect you from conflict and emotional chaos. In relationships, as in other areas of life, you often end up in an internal tug-of-war, first drawing close to the object of your affection, and then pulling away. Not surprisingly, your ambivalence may strike the other person as manipulative. [Pg.71]

If you work with or for a Libra, you have the opportunity to observe the power of reason close up. Libra respects rational decision-making and analysis. Gifted with poise and intelligence, Libra tries to be fair and expects you to share in the spirit of compromise. It s true that Libran decision-making can be a lengthy process. Libra values your input. But after a decision has been reached, Libra moves with dispatch. Two pieces of advice Present your ideas calmly and logically. And look your best. Libra may pretend that appearance doesn t matter. But others know better than to believe it. [Pg.72]
