A colloid fog will scatter a beam of light. This is called the Tyndall Effect and can be used as a troubleshooting tool. 

A fiber-diffraction pattern is recorded on a flat-film camera in which the fiber-to-photographic film distance is typically in the range of 3 to 4 cm. During exposure to X-rays, the specimen chamber is continuously flushed with a slow and steady stream of helium gas that has been bubbled through a saturated salt solution so that (a) the fiber is maintained at a constant desired r.h. and (b) fogging of the photographic film from air scattering is reduced. 

Tyndall scattering also causes the blinding effect of shining a car headlight directly into a thick bank of fog or mist it also yields the beautiful iridescent colours on the wing of a butterfly or peacock tail, and an opal and mother of pearl. A good potter can reproduce some of these optical effects with so-called iridescent glazes, which comprise colloidal materials. 

Two basic processes are used to create smoke clouds the condensation of vaporized material and the dispersion of solid or liquid particles. Materials can either be released slowly via a pyrotechnic reaction or they can instantaneously be scattered using an explosive material. Technically, a dispersion of fine solid particles in air is termed a smoke, while liquid particles in air create a fog. A smoke is created by particles in the 10 -10 " meter range, while larger suspended particles create a dust (1). ...

If your shoot is already rooted, or if you live in a humid climate, you can go ahead and plant it directly. Plant it in shade or scattered light, the leaves don t tolerate a lot of direct sunlight-rve had some plants do well with almost no sun at all. This formulation presents a thin barrier between the water vapor (i.e., fog, steam, etc.) and the glass which will prevent fogging. The ability to lower the surface tension of the water prevents the clinging of individual water droplets to the glass therefore light is not scattered as much as it is when passing through individual droplets.
