SCOPE OF FLYBASE DATA TYPES WHAT YOU WILL FIND WHEN YOU GET THERE, 516 Gene and Allele Reports, 516... [Pg.508]

FlyBase text searches are accessible from many different entry points the home page itself, the All Searches page, or the relevant data class page. In most cases, both simple and complex queries are available on the data class pages. FlyBase sections with searchable text include Genes, Aberrations, Clones, People, Stocks, Transposons, FlyBase documentation. News archives, and References (these data classes are described below. Scope of FlyBase Data Types). [Pg.512]

The result of a query will be a table of summarized results, including name, cytological location, accession number, or Bloomington stock number each name hyperlinks to a full report (described below for each data type under Scope of FlyBase Data Types). The results can be saved as a text file for import into any common spreadsheet software that can interpret tab-delimited files (such as Excel or Filemaker), or as a FASTA formatted file of the sequences for sequence analysis. [Pg.513]

The Cytological maps feature within the Maps section of FlyBase allows users to view different classes of genetic entities based on their determined or predicted cytogenetic map location. These classes of data include genes and various types of aberrations. After selecting cytological division and data class, the user can click on the symbol of an entity to open a hyperlinked text file describing that entity. [Pg.514]

A link to molecular map data curated from the literature by FlyBase is provided by the gene report all maps that include the gene of interest are shown. Molecular maps are genomic maps of wild-type chromosomes. Each map represents the data presented in one... [Pg.517]

The Transposons section of FlyBase contains information on natural transposons and their component genes. It also includes information about engineered transposons and plasmid vectors, including cell culture vectors, annotated maps and compiled sequences of many of these transposons and constructs, and general information about them (e.g., selectable markers). Lists of specific types of constructs, such as P-element cloning vectors, enhancer traps, and reporter constructs, are provided, as are lists of insertions of specific constructs. Transposon insertion reports include cytological location, phenotypic data, and expression pattern data. [Pg.518]
