Fluorescent paint

Cadmium tungstate (CdWO ) is used in fluorescent paint, X-ray screens, and scintillation counters and as a catalyst. It is very toxic when inhaled. [Pg.145]

Zinc sulfide occurs naturally as the minerals zinc blende and, more rarely, wurtzite, these are structural prototypes (see Section 5.11). It is a light-sensitive white solid and, on exposure to cathode- or X-rays, it luminesces or fluoresces and is used in fluorescent paints and radar screens. Adding Cu to ZnO results in a green phosphorescence after exposure to light, and other colour variations are achieved by using different additives. The conversion of ZnS to ZnO by roasting in air is the commercial method of producing the oxide. [Pg.640]

Products and Uses An additive in fluorescent paint that produces crackle or crystal effects. Precautions Toxic by breathing. [Pg.71]

There shall be an ease of movement of vehicles (forklift tmck, trolleys, etc) and less distances to be travelled internally for transport of materials reduce the chance of spillages. Convex mirrors and reflecting surfaces (with fluorescent paints) shall be installed at blind comers to prevent collisions between approaching vehicles and subsequent pollution due to heavy spillages. [Pg.133]

Cadmium tungstate is probably of limited interest although according to the Colour Index (1971 Cl 77208) it is used in the USA in fluorescent paints. [Pg.72]
