Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are produced through the incomplete combustion of various materials. Air-suspended particulates adsorb PAHs so air and subsequently soil and sand will also be contantinated. PAHs generally exhibit strong carcinogenic and mutagenic activity.
