The selection of the cure system in these applications is directed by constraints such as location of the adhesive in terms of confined space, speed and depth of cure, etc. The volumes of silicones typically applied are relatively small. In general, the uncured adhesive needs to be dispensed in a well-defined and limited area, and needs to stay in place without flowing during cure. No by-products of the cure reaction are acceptable as they may contaminate other sensitive areas of the devices. These constraints often direct the choice to the platinum-catalyzed hydrosilylation cure system that is relatively expensive. [Pg.703]

Air supplied in confined space by downward vertical jets creates a similar flow pattern as in the case of air supply by horizontal nonattached jets. Review the system illustrated in Figure 40.8. Chamber A is under pressure and is connected by a tube to chamber B, which is also under pressure. The pressure in chamber A is static pressure of lOOpsi. The pressure at some point (X) along the connecting tube consists of a velocity pressure of lOpsi exerted in a direction parallel to the line of flow, plus the unused static pressure of 90psi. The static pressure (90psi) follows Pascal s law and exerts equal pressure in all directions. As the fluid enters chamber B, it slows down and its velocity is reduced. As a volume of liquid moves from a small, confined space into a larger area, the fluid will expand to fill the greater volume. The result of this expansion is a reduction of velocity and a momentary reduction in pressure. [Pg.592]

CONFINED SPACE A spacc which is substantially, although not always entirely, enclosed and where there is a reasonably foreseeable risk of serious injury from hazardous substances or conditions within the space or nearby. The risks may include flammable substances oxygen deficiency or enrichment toxic gases, fume or vapour ingress or presence of liquids free-flowing solids presence of excessive heat. For the purpose of the Confined Spaces Regulations 1997 a confined space means any place, including any chamber, tank, vat, silo, pit, trench, pipe, sewer, flue, well or other similar space in which, by virtue of its enclosed nature, there arises a reasonably foreseeable specified risk. [Pg.12]

Apart from obvious features such as laminarity, there are speculations that flows in micro channels exhibit a behavior deviating from predictions of macroscopic continuum theory. In the case of gas flows, these deviations, manifesting themselves as, e.g., velocity slip at solid surfaces, are comparatively well understood (for an overview, see [130]). However, for liquid flows on a length scale above 1 pm, there is no clear theoretical foundation for deviations from continuum behavior. Nevertheless, various unexpected phenomena such as friction factors deviating from the continuum prediction [131-133] have been reported. A more detailed discussion of this still unsettled matter is given in Section 2.2. At any rate, one has to be careful here since it may be that measurements in small systems lack precision, essentially because of the incompatibility of analysis in a confined space and with large measuring equipment... [Pg.49]

Micro reaction systems may help to overcome or at least reduce some of the above-mentioned limitations [69].
