Flagging

As the feed composition approaches a plait point, the rate of convergence of the calculation procedure is markedly reduced. Typically, 10 to 20 iterations are required, as shown in Cases 2 and 6 for ternary type-I systems. Very near a plait point, convergence can be extremely slow, requiring 50 iterations or more. ELIPS checks for these situations, terminates without a solution, and returns an error flag (ERR=7) to avoid unwarranted computational effort. This is not a significant disadvantage since liquid-liquid separations are not intentionally conducted near plait points.

The first line of the connection table, called the counts line (see Figure 2-21), specifies how many atoms constitute the molecule represented by this file, how many bonds arc within the molecule, whether this molecule is chiral (1 in the chiral flag entry) or not, etc. The last-but-onc entry (number of additional properties) is no longer supported and is always set to 999. The last entry specifics the version of the Ctab format used in the current file. In the ease analyzed it is V2000". There is also a newer V3000 format, called the Extended Connection Table, which uses a different syntax for describing atoms and bonds [50. Because it is still not widely used, it is not covered here.

Alternatively, the user can construct ASCII input files manually. The file format includes many numerical flags to control the type of calculation. The researcher should plan on investing some time in learning to use the program in this way. Jaguar can be executed from the command line, making it possible to use batch processing or job queue systems. 

Examples of typical packaging labels from reagent grade chemicals. Label (a) provides the actual lot assay for the reagent as determined by the manufacturer. Note that potassium has been flagged with an asterisk ( ) because its assay exceeds the maximum limit established by the American Chemical Society (ACS). Label (b) does not provide assayed values, but indicates that the reagent meets the specifications of the ACS for the listed impurities. An assay for the reagent also is provided. 

This reduction in information is achieved by a preprocessor, which uses the digital voltages corresponding to an ion peak to estimate the peak area (ion abundance) and centroid (mean arrival time of peak, equivalent to m/z value) these two pieces of information — plus a flag to identify the peak — are stored. 

Mepiquat chloride is mixed with 2-chloroethylphosphonic acid to control lodging of winter barley in Europe under the name Terpal. The plants are treated after the first nodes have become visible and treatments may be appHed until the flag leaf develops. Terpal is not used in the United States. 

In addition to the circuit breaker, there have been a number of other SMA appHcations for various functions in electric power generation (qv), distribution, and transmission systems. One such device is a thermal indicator that provides a signal visible from the ground of a hot junction or connector in a distribution yard. Such hot spots occur as a result of the loosening of bus bar connectors owing to cycHc temperature as the electric load varies. In addition to the use of SMA flags as a hot-spot indicators, actuators that automatically maintain the contact force in a bus bar connection have been demonstrated. Based on a BeUeviHe washer fabricated from a Cu—Al—Ni SMA trained to exhibit two-way memory, these washers, when heated by a hot joint, increase their force output and correct the condition. A 30 mm diameter washer 3 mm thick can produce a force of over 4000 N. Similar in purpose... 

The results processor computes the test results from the raw data furnished by the AP and coUates these results together with the demographic patient data into test reports. Test results falling outside normal limits are flagged on the report to speed up the diagnosis process. These data managers can also store thousands of patient reports in their current memory. Some of the more sophisticated systems also store the actual reaction curves used to determine the test results.
