Five Explosive Materials

Explosive Stimulus Transfer. Parkiag, specifies that marked or placarded vehicles canying hazmat should not be parked on or within five feet of the traveled portion of any roadway. If the vehicle does not contain Division 1.1, 1.2, or 1.3 (explosive) materials, it may be stopped for brief periods when operational necessity requires parking the vehicle, and it would be impractical to stop elsewhere. 

Note that noncompliance with various OSHA-required electrical safe work practices is one of the top ten violations listed in Table 9.12. The common use of electricity and electrical equipment and appliances has resulted in failure of most persons to appreciate the hazards involved. These hazards can be divided into five principal categories (1) shock to persormel, (2) ignition of combustible (or explosive) materials, (3) overheating and damage to equipment, (4) electrical explosions, and (5) inadvertent activation of equipment (Hammer, 1989). 

This book is divided into five parts the problem, accidents, health risk, hazard risk, and hazard risk analysis. Part 1, an introduction to HS AM, presents legal considerations, emergency planning, and emergency response. This Part basically ser es as an oveiwiew to the more teclmical topics covered in the remainder of the book. Part 11 treats the broad subject of accidents, discussing fires, explosions and other accidents. The chapters in Parts 111 and Part IV provide introductory material to health and hazard risk assessment, respectively. Pai1 V examines hazaid risk analysis in significant detail. The thiee chapters in this final part include material on fundamentals of applicable statistics theory, and the applications and calculations of risk analysis for real systems. 

As judged by vacuum stability test data (see below), Explosive D is of a very high order of stability. The material has been found to withstand storage at ordinary temps for a period of twenty years with no evidence of deterioration, and at 50° for more than five years without marked deterioration... 

The US Department of Energy currently maintains an estimated five year supply of TATB for its Stockpile Stewardship and Management Program which is designed to ensure the safety, security and reliability of the US nuclear stockpile. The Department of Defense is also studying the possible use of TATB as an insensitive booster material because even with its safety characteristics, a given amount of this explosive has more power than an equivalent volume of TNT.
