Fish oils handling

Gelatin is also used for the microencapsulation of drugs, where the active drug is sealed inside a microsized capsule or beadlet, which may then be handled as a powder. The first microencapsulated drugs (beadlets) were fish oils and oily vitamins in gelatin beadlets prepared by an emulsion process. [Pg.295]

Considerable disruption of refinery operation and loss of value and quality can be caused by inter-oil contamination. It is therefore desirable in multi-oil refineries to segregate the oils by class, for example, animal fats from vegetable oils, lauric acid oils from high-iodine-value liquid oils. Crude palm oil should be separated from other oils because of its dark colour. Soft fish oils must be handled in a separate installation because only minimal contamination is needed to produce a fishy smell and taste in another oil type which is used unhydrogenated. [Pg.191]

Continuous screw presses are used (1) for extracting fats and oils in small operations where investment capital or supplies of raw materials are limited and installation of a solvent extraction plant is impractical (2) to partially defat high-oil content seeds for easier handling in subsequent solvent extraction or hard pressing and (3) for extraction of animal flesh and bones, fish, and fleshy-type oilseeds such as palm fruit, olives, and copra (dried coconut meat ), and oilseeds. These machines have been generically referred to as expellers, but the Expeller trademark belongs to Anderson International Corporation, Cleveland, OH, successor to the company founded by Valerius D. Anderson who patented the first continuous screw press in 1899. [Pg.1585]
