Fire-rated type laminate is an HPDL capable of providing fire-rated characteristics as determined by the test methods requited by the authority having jurisdiction. [Pg.536]

The standard sized sheets are four ft (1.22 m) wide and from 8 to 16 ft long. Sheets are available in thicknesses from j up to 1 in. (0.63 to 2.5 cm), but the most common thicknesses are S and 5/8 in. (1.3 and 1.6 cm). There are special products for bathrooms, such as moisture-resistant board (3% of market) and sheathing appHcations (2% of market), but the vast majority of the product sold is either standard board (60% of market) or the fire-rated Type X board (29% of market). Type X (1.6 cm thick) is the basis of most of the one-hour fire walls in buildings built since the 1960s. [Pg.322]

This equation has two unknowns Xq and Xe), and an empirical relation between them is needed. Many have been tried, and one of the best is to assume that the excess of To over Te expressed as a ratio to Tp (zero for a perfectly stirred chamber) is a constant A [ (Tg — Tg)/ Tp]. Although A should vaiy with burner type, the effects of firing rate and percent excess air are small. In the absence of performance data on the land of furnace under study, assume A = 300/Tp, °R or 170/Tp, K. The left side of Eq. (5-178) then becomes D 1 —Xc + A), and with coefficients of Xc and Xc collected, the equation becomes... [Pg.586]

Reduced air preheat and reduced firing rates lower peak temperatures in the combustion zone, thus reducing thermal NO,. This strategy, however, carries a substantial energy penalty. Emissions of smoke and carbon monoxide need to be controlled, which reduces operational flexibility. [Pg.27]

Techniques involving low-excess-air firing staged-combustion, and flue gas recirculation are effective in controlling both fuel NO, and thermal NO,. The techniques of reduced air preheat and reduced firing rates (from normal operation) and water or steam injection are effective only in controlling thermal NO,. These will therefore not be as effective for coal-fired units since about 80% of the NO, emitted from these units is fuel NO,. [Pg.28]

Air filter performance An overall assessment ot the collection efficiency, pressure drop, flow rate, fire rating, health aspects, and behavior of a filter in the environment in which it is used. [Pg.1410]

Some new features of furnaces available today include variable speed blowers, which deliver warm air more slowly and more quietly when less heat is needed, and variable heat output from the burner, which when combined with the variable speed blower allows for more continuous heating than the typical fixed firing rate. Distribution system features can be sophisticated with zoned heating which employs a number of thermostats, a sophisticated central controller, and a series of valves or dampers that direct airflow or water to different parts of the home only when needed in those areas. [Pg.542]

Commercial and industrial H V applications and where Class O fire rating and low smoke-emission characteristics are required. [Pg.123]

The turndown ratio is an indication of the ability of the burner to maintain a stable flame at lower firing rates, and is a ratio of the maximum and minimum firing rates. Turndown can be low for average burners of both natural-and forced-draft burners, 3 1 being a typical figure with 5 1a maximum although up to 40 1 is possible with special burners. [Pg.263]

Figure 19.2 illustrates a burner at a fixed firing rate. In practice, many burners will have a varying firing rate with inferior performance at turndown, mainly because of poor mixing caused by reduced kinetic energy of both air and gas. To allow for this, the control system must provide for an increasing excess air with turndown. [Pg.265]

Most combustion equipment is not controlled by means of a feedback from flue gas analysis but is preset at the time of commissioning and preferably checked and reset at intervals as part of a planned maintenance schedule. It is difficult to set the burner for optimum efficiency at all firing rates and some compromise is necessary, depending on the control valves used and the control mode (e.g. on/off, fully modulating, etc.). [Pg.278]

Modulate the combustion airflow to the low fire rate (where applicable). [Pg.280]

The duty will preferably fall within the modulating firing rate of the burner. [Pg.353]

Most boiler plants can be installed using one or more boilers, which can accommodate minimum to maximum loads. Occasionally, heavy peak loads occur for only relatively short periods, and here there may be an advantage on economic running grounds to install boilers whose firing rate will not meet these peaks. In these cases, there are two methods which may be used one is thermal storage and the other is with an accumulator. [Pg.362]

Primary generalized seizures are also heterogeneous with respect to their clinical features. Such seizures can impose as absence epilepsy, which is characterized by a brief interruption of consciousness due to highly synchronized neuronal activity involving thalamocortical networks without increases in neuronal firing rate. On the other hand, tonic-clonic convulsions with loss of consciousness are often also primarily generalized. [Pg.126]
