Filtration, automated rapid

Experiments to determine specific resistance, based on Equation 7, have usually been carried out by some form of vacuum filtration. These methods are time-consuming and subject to error. More rapid techniques such as the measurement of capillary suction time (CST) can be used (8), although these do not give absolute values of specific resistance. Nevertheless, the CST method is very useful for rapidly obtaining comparative data on the flocculation of fairly concentrated suspensions by polymers (9). In the present work, specific resistance has been determined by an automated technique, which will be described below. [Pg.448]

Figure 24-10 Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves comparing creatinine and cystatin C in the assessment of GFR. Non parametric ROC plots were constructed to assess the diagnostic accuracy of serum concentrations of cystatin C and creatinine in distinguishing between normal and reduced GFR (less than 80mL/min per 1.73 m ) in 51 patients with various renal conditions. (From Kyhse-Andersen j, Schmidt C, Nordin C, et af. Serum cystatin C, determined by a rapid, automated particle-enhanced turbidimetric method, is a better marker than serum creatinine for glomerular filtration rate. Clin Chem 1994 40 l92l-6.)... CEM also offers a manual peptide synthesizer. Discover SPS (Fig. 20.7). This system is also based on the Discover microwave reactor. It uses a 25 mL polypropylene SPE cartridge that is held in place in the reactor. Fiber-optic temperature monitoring is included in the system and enables control of microwave power delivery. A vacuum manifold station is provided that enables rapid washing and filtration of reagents during the cycle. The system can be upgraded to the automated Liberty. [Pg.907]
