Filled rolls

Another modern trend is the increased sale of filled rolls and prepacked sandwiches. The sale of filled rolls provides many small bakers with a very satisfactory source of profit. The manufacture of pre-packed sandwiches is now a large industry, consuming large quantities of bread. Such sales growth is obviously caused by a population that is short of time rather than money. [Pg.3]

Supercalenders are classic off-line machines as they have downtimes of 25-30% due to the fiUed roll change. To be able to keep pace with a high-speed paper machine at least two, sometimes even three, supercalenders were therefore required. This disadvantage of the supercalender led, at the begiiming of 1980, to the development of the soft calender. The soft calender consists of at least one heated roll and one resilient roll covered with synthetic material. Because synthetic rolls are much more resistant to marking than the filled rolls of the conventional supercalender, the soft calender was also able to be used on-line. In many cases, the online soft calender was very successful. However, not all quality demands on the paper surface could be met with it. For demanding papers, the supercalender equipped with filled rolls and which could therefore only be operated off-Hne remained the only alternative. [Pg.297]

Roller conveyors are quite frequently powered, the simplest method being use of a pressure belt in contact with the lower surface of the rolls. Most expensive of the powered roller units are those in which each roll is equipped with V-belt or chain drives. If a truck driver is hauling clay fill into an exclusion zone, does this fall under the HAZWOPER standard At some sites, it might be a requirement that ALL persons (including truck drivers) are HAZWOPER trained. However, in all likelihood, a requirement to HAZWOPER train all truck drivers would be a difficult requirement to administer. At most sites, drivers are not HAZWOPER trained. One way to avoid this training would be to require that the drivers do not drive through contaminated areas. In addition, make sure that the drivers know that they must not leave their trucks and that they should keep their windows rolled up. [Pg.21]

The old, tedious, but quite reliable method is to measure the supply flow by the bag method. A tightly rolled plastic bag empty of air at the commencement of the test is pressed on the terminal with all the supply air passing into the bag. The filling time of the bag is measured and the flow rate calculated based on this information. The bag volume has to be determined in advance by a special measurement. There are two types of hot feed extruders, one similar to the screw type cold feed extruder, except that the strip feeding the extruder is taken directly off the two-roll mill. The mill is used to further blend and heat the compound. It is then taken off the mill in strip form and fed directly into the extruder. The second type of hot feed extruder is based on the action of a ram being used to feed the compound into the extruder die (Fig. 16). The operational-factor tests performed with A1 filled compounds in comparison with A2 filled compounds revealed higher predicted wear resistance and wet traction with the same level of rolling resistance. At the same time the graph of tan 8 versus temperature in Figure 17.6 shows that tan 8 is higher than that of the A2 compound at low temperatures (-20°C). [Pg.512]

The compounds were mixed in three steps The first two steps were done in an internal mixer with a mixing chamber volume of 390 mL. The mixing procedures employed in the first two steps are indicated in Table 29.2. The starting temperamre was 50°C and the cooling water was kept at a constant temperature of 50°C. The rotor speed was 100 rpm and the fill factor 66%. After every mixing step the compound was sheeted out on a 100-mL two-roll mill. The third mixing step was done on the same two-roll mill.
