Searching of one or more on-line databases is a technique increasingly used ia novelty studies. The use of such databases enables the searcher to combine indexing parameters, including national and international classifications natural language words ia the full text of patents, ia their claims, or ia abstracts suppHed by iaventor and by professional documentation services and indexing systems of various sorts. Because the various patent databases have strengths and weaknesses that complement each other, the use of multiple databases is thus pmdent, and is faciUtated by multifile and cross-file techniques provided by the various on-line hosts. 

NIOSHTIC on compact disc from the Canadian Center for Occupational Health and Safety (ean buy at CCOHS web site). "NIOSHTIC(R) is a bibliographie database which provides comprehensive international coverage of documents on occupational health and safety, as well as related fields. It eontains detailed summaries of over 200,000 articles, reports and publications, spanning over 100 years. NIOSHTIC(R) sources include over 160 scientific and technical journals, NIOSH reports (published and unpublished), NIOSH research bibliographies, abstracts from CIS Abstracts, and personal files from respected professionals on selected topics. 

The installer engaged by the furniture supplier did a truly professional job. It was finished sooner than expected. Liebman), Blackie Academic Professional, an imprint of Chapman Hall, London, in press]. The enthalpies of formation of hydrocarbyl radicals is still a subject of some dispute. Admitting our prejudices, file values chosen in file current study are those recommended by the latter reference. 

A second recommendation is that the ACS spell out that part of one s professionalism is mandatory disclosure of information about toxic and harmful effects of new or currently used chemicals. It is not enough for a scientist simply to know certain information which is of societal concern. It is imperative that the information go beyond company files and scientific journals and enter the domain of public interest. The art of delivering this information may at times have to include whistleblowing. 

In summary, it is the responsibility of the pharmacist to select the most appropriate quality of chemical for compounding, beginning with the USP/NF as the first choice and, if this is not available, descending the list of purity grades using professional judgment and discretion. A certificate of analysis for the chemicals should be obtained and kept on file in the pharmacy for these selected chemicals [17,18]. 

Not long ago, a poster consisted of 8-12 sheets of paper cut and pasted onto individual pieces of colored construction paper. Today, most institutions have plotters, which can print multicolored single-page posters (e.g., 3 ft X 5 ft or 0.91 m X 1.52 m) from software files (e.g., Microsoft PowerPoint or Adobe Illustrator). We assume that you have access to such plotters and software, and we present only single-page posters in this textbook. Such advances make it possible for even the first-time presenter to create professional quality posters. 

Once your resume is complete, review this list carefully, then proofread your resume to ensure yours doesn t contain one of the errors that could easily result in it getting filed in the circular bin known as the wastebasket Even if you are an extremely qualified candidate, most HR professionals and people responsible for hiring others make a point to discard resumes that contain careless mistakes, simply because it demonstrates poor attention to details on the the applicant s part. 

When justified, manual integration may be conducted for standards, samples, and QC check samples. The manner in which manual integration is conducted is based on professional judgment of the analyst experienced in chromatographic analysis. If a need for manual integration arises, the analyst will select a proper technique, conduct the manual integration, and document it in the sample file. Once a manual integration technique has been selected, it must be consistently used for the similarly affected peaks in all subsequent analyses. 

Occasionally, when approved drugs enter the marketplace, unexpected, adverse effects occur. Reports of adverse drug reactions to the FDA are considered by public health officials to be the most reliable early warnings of a product s danger. The reports are filed to the FDA by health professionals, consumers, and drug manufacturers. In these cases, it is not uncommon for the FDA to rescind its approval and demand the withdrawal of the products. In fact, between 1997 and 2001, this happened on 12 occasions involving drugs cited as suspects in over a 1000 deaths (see Table 14.2). 

For the enthusiasts it is possible to write quite elaborate programs and develop very professional looking m files. The beginner is advised to have a basic idea of a few of the main features of Matlab as a programming environment. 

Many word processors can incorporate graphics from other programs into the text of a document. Files must be compatible (see your manual) but if this is so, it is a relatively straightforward procedure. For highly professional documents this is a valuable facility, but for most undergraduate work it is probably better to produce and use graphics as a separate operation, e.g. employing a spreadsheet. 

Over the course of this chapter we will look at these enhancements, along with examining the basic steps needed to install and configure Windows 2000 Professional. In the process, we will also look at a number of the critical files used to start and run Windows 2000. 

The virtual memory settings (see Figure 14.14) tell you how much hard drive space is allocated to the system as a swap file. For a review of what virtual memory is, return to Part II, Chapter 13, Windows 95/98. Windows 2000 recommends a particular virtual memory level, but you can add to or subtract from this as you need. Often, certain applications (SQL Server for instance) will need to have Windows 2000 Professional s virtual memory limit raised in order to work properly. Graphics and CAD applications also require raising the virtual memory level, but if this is the case, the setup instructions for the application will generally tell you what modifications need to be made.
