Field visits

The Department is proposing treatment standards for non-RCRA metal-containing aqueous waste. Information on the availability and effectiveness of amenable treatment technologies was collected from the technical literature, surveys of technology vendors and affected industry, EPA studies, and field visits. 

The Agency can decrease the frequency of field visits, inspections, and reviews. While these gaps create windows of vulnerability, the periodic (unannounced) visits can still provide some level of assurances. 

The program of the conference included a field visit to one of Kuwait s most modem refineries. A trip was also organized to one of Kuwait s oil fields. The partipants had a chance to observe oil lakes and the extent of the damage incurred by the blowing up of Kuwait s oil wells. 

Figure 6 shows a PCA analysis representing the results of one such field visit. The plot shows three separate clusters representing the reference, background and the volatile sample with a mouldy odour identified as dry rot. These data have been replicated in many sites, and show promise that a robust instrument for field use can be achieved.

Although topics such as these provide useful guidance as to how much progress is being made, there are serious limitations. In particular, it is difficult to make a quantitative link between these topics and the risk associated with PSEs. Primary emphasis is placed on disseminating ACRP results to the intended end-users of the research airport operating agencies, service providers, and suppliers. The ACRP produces a series of research reports for use by airport operators, local agencies, the FAA, and other interested parties, and industry associations may arrange for workshops, training aids, field visits, and other activities to ensure that results are implemented by airport-industry practitioners.
