Field records

Field records document field measurements and field conditions at the time of sampling. These are permanent project records that are stored with the rest of the project files in a central location after the project is completed. A chemist, a geologist, or an engineer often reviews the field records to order to interpret the collected data in context of field conditions during sampling. Accurate and relevant field records allow efficient resolution of issues related to field and laboratory data interpretation and quality, whereas sketchy and inaccurate records raise more questions than they answer. [Pg.179]

At a minimum, field records include the COC Form and field logbooks. Matrix-specific sampling forms, similar to one shown in Appendix 16, may often supplement logbooks. Another form of field records is a photolog that may be created for certain projects. [Pg.179]

The COC Form, which is started in the field and completed at the laboratory, serves as a legal record of sampling and as a request for analysis. It contains only the basic field information that is necessary for the laboratory to correctly identify and analyse the samples. An incomplete or incorrect COC Form usually causes delays at the [Pg.179]
