Other considerations include selecting locations that provide representative homogeneous samples with minimum transport delay, locations that cohect a minimum of contaminating material, and locations that are accessible for test and maintenance procedures.

The definition of a random daytime sample is a sample that is taken at a random time of a working day directly from the tap in a property without previous flushing. When the sample is taken the tap should be fully opened or as open as possible without losing sample. The stagnation of water in the domestic distribution system influences the concentration of lead in a random manner. Stratified random sampling, which is a variation of simple random sampling, is used for media that are stratified with respect to their chemical and physical properties. Each stratum is identified and randomly sampled. The number of grab samples and the sampling point selection depend on the nature of contaminant distribution within each stratum. Stratified random sampling is used for the characterization of multiphase liquid wastes or process waste batches that undergo stratification over time and/or space. 

Judgmental sampling is used to obtain information about specific areas suspected of contamination. The sampling point selection is based on the existing information on the contamination source and history. Typically, an individual who has the detailed knowledge of the area to be sampled makes decisions on the sampling point placement.

While field crews collect the samples, the chemist verifies their types and quantities by comparing the COC Forms, Sample Tracking Logs, and other field records to the SAP specifications. At the end of a given number of coking/regeneration cycles, catalyst pellets were sampled at selected reactor locations.
