Felt strips

A configuration for electrically connecting tubular cells to form a stack is described in Section 8.1.2 under sealless tubular configuration (Figure 8-6). The cells are connected in a series-parallel array by nickel felt strips that are exposed to the reducing fuel gas. In this arrangement, the nickel felt strips and cell interconnections extend the length of the cell. 

The engineers Nowak and Rademacher have shown that the gas-tight doors manufactured at Auschwitz by inmates from wooden planks could not have been gas-tight in a technical sense, the planks did not close hermetically, the fittings were simply fastened through the wood by means of bolts, and the seals consisted of felt strips.212...

Felt strips or coir cords are tied around the trunks of the donor trees in late summer, to induce the migrating females to use them as their winter retreat. These strips or cords are removed from the donor trees and hung on the recipient trees in winter or early spring.

A simpler version of this apparatus is the diffusion cloud chamber, developed by Cowan, Needels, and Nielsen in 1950, in which super saturation is achieved by placing a row of felt strips soaked in a suitable alcohol at the top of the chamber. The lower part of the chamber is cooled by solid carbon dioxide. The vapour continuously diffuses downwards, and that in the centre (where it becomes supersaturated) is almost continuously sensitive to the presence of ions created by the radiation. 

Cut a sheet of white construction paper into several strips approximately 15 cm (6") long and 2 cm (1") wide. About 2 cm from the bottom of the strip, make several small marks using the different felt pens. 

Try separating the colors in felt-tipped pens. This can be done by coloring a circle about the size of a dime with the felt-tipped pen on a strip of paper towel and then placing the strip in the bowl of water as before. 

The lanthanum chromite interconnect strip is applied along the length of the tube by plasma-spraying. Since this is required to pass through the electrolyte and anode it is necessary to use appropriate masking during their deposition. The connection between cells is made via a soft nickel felt so that no dangerous mechanical stresses are placed on the tubes. 

While the surfacing of a stripping roll is not a critical factor, it may be noted that a polished chromium surface can be kept clean easily. Because of condensation, when highly plasticized films are being made at low speeds it may be necessary to have in contact with stripping rolls a rotating felt roller to remove any plasticizer, etc. 

Felt was used as gasket material, as shown by some photos as well as by documents, e.g. the materials inventory of February 24, 1943 (Pressac,12 p. 444). For this purpose, strips of felt of low elasticity, 7 mm thick and of varying width, were nailed into the panel and door frame seams. This is documented by a photo on page 61, and others. There are many other minor details of evidence with which we shall not bore our readers, but one more essential point is that not every photo shows whether the necessary 5-cm-high threshold was present on the floor in every case no door can be sealed gas-tight along the floor without one. 

A previously healthy 35-year-old man with conjunctival irritation had fluorescein dye instilled using a fluorescein-treated ophthalmic strip and isotonic saline. The reverberations in the sports world are still being felt perhaps more significantly, Johnson s scandal opened the eyes of the public to the problem of steroid abuse. 

Flannelboard It is also some times referred to as flannel graph or felt board. It is made of wood, cardboard or strawboard covered with coloured flannel or woollen cloth. It is one of the latest devices effectively used for science teaching. Display materials like cut-outs, pictures, drawings and light objects backed with rough surfaces like sand paper strips, flannel strips etc. will stick to flannel-board temporarily. 

In summer over the heated expanse of deserts continental tropical air is formed which is characterized by high aridity. The humidifying effect of the Aral Sea is felt only within a narrow coastal strip and is most prominent in the midsummer (Fig. 5b).
