Federal budget

Allowing a construction cost of 2.3 billion per 1,200 MWe reactor with 15% for economies of scale, the total cost of this entire project would be 1/2 trillion, or about 2 months of the current U.S. federal budget. This is 4% of the annual U.S. gross domestic product. 

By 2003 the total annual federal budget for drug control efforts exceeded 19 billion, with many hundreds of millions of dollars more spent by state and local governments. An estimated 3.5 million Americans received some sort of treatment for drug abuse during the year preceding the 2002 survey. Of these, about 2.2 million received treatment for alcohol, about 974,000 for marijuana, 796,000 for cocaine, 360,000 for abuse of pain relievers, and 277,000 for heroin.

The cost to the Medicare patient changes each year. During the year 2(X)1, it was 50.00 per month. This charge is deducted from the recipients monthly Social Security check before it is received. The premiums paid by participants represent 25% of the program s cost. The remaining 75% is paid directly by a federal budget appropriation.

This year, as a continuation of our efforts, we conducted a three-day Inquiry into the R D portion of the federal budget. Because of the large share of federal R D support and the manner in which federal policies and regulations increasingly affect private Investment in R D, the dominance of the Federal Government and its Impact on the elements of our science and technology enterprise are probably greater than ever. 

The total cost of corrosion to the U.S. federal government was estimated to be 8 billion out of which capital cost is 6 billion and maintenance cost is 2 billion. The total corrosion costs represent 2% of the total federal budget of 400 billion. 

The 2006 proposed federal budget for nondefense scientific research and development (R D) was 57 billion. The proposed budget for scientific R D related to national defense was 75 billion. 

By mid-1940, however, press speculation could reach no further than "possibilities." The practical problems seemed insurmountable. The isotope U-235 proved so rare that the cost of the electricity needed to produce a pound of it wouid surpass the entire US federal budget.
