Fastness to lime

Kalk-echtlieit. /. fastness to lime, -einlagerung, /. calcareous deposit, -eisengranat, m. lime-iron garnet, andradite. -eisenstein, m, ferruginous limestone, kalkempfindlich, a. sensitive to lime. Kalkempfindlichkeit, /. sensitiveness to lime, kalken, kalken, v.t. lime. [Pg.234]

Lakes for coloured paper and pictures are also tested as to their fastness to lime and to alkali, this being done as described in the general methods or, more simply, by moistening with milk of lime or dilute (about N/10) caustic soda solution the reverse side of a paper painted with the lake and examining the right side of the paper after drying, to ascertain if any change of colour has occurred,... [Pg.403]

The examination of terre verte is commonly limited to technical tests of the covering power and of the fastness to atmospheric agents and to lime, and to tests for the presence of artificial organic dyes (usually by treatment with alcohol). The presence of copper colours may be detected by treatment with ammonia. [Pg.396]

Green, lime n. Term applied to those green pigments, which are employed for their fastness to alkah (lime). For a considerable time it consisted of the green produced from green earth but the term is now applied to other types, e.g., reduced Pigment Green B. [Pg.470]

This macromolecular reagent is also a good choice against the oxidation of nitrites when using homogenous oxidant. In the reactive copolymer column process the diluted nitrite ion gets in contaet with high coneentration of oxidant (4.10 mmol of active chlorine/g of copolymer) and that is why the oxidation reaction runs fast to completeness. The postreaction solution may be used in a mineral fertilizer production or it can be applied directly as a nutritive spray for farmlands. Neutralization with ammonia or lime-water or calcium carbonate suspension is recommended. [Pg.40]

Ultrasonic absorption is used in the investigation of fast reactions in solution. If a system is at equilibrium and the equilibrium is disturbed in a very short time (of the order of 10"seconds) then it takes a finite time for the system to recover its equilibrium condition. This is called a relaxation process. When a system in solution is caused to relax using ultrasonics, the relaxation lime of the equilibrium can be related to the attenuation of the sound wave. Relaxation times of 10" to 10 seconds have been measured using this method and the rates of formation of many mono-, di-and tripositive metal complexes with a range of anions have been determined. [Pg.411]

Sevoflurane. Sevoflurane, l,l,l,3,3,3-hexafluoro-2-propyl fluromethyl ether [28523-86-6] is nonpungent, suggesting use in induction of anesthesia. The blood/gas partition coefficient is less than other marketed products (Table 1) yet similar to nitrous oxide, suggesting fast onset and recovery. In animal studies, recovery was faster for sevoflurane than for isoflurane, enflurane, or halothane (76). Sevoflurane is stable to light, oxygen, and metals (28). However, the agent does degrade in soda lime (77). [Pg.409]

OxideofOoba.lt, the ores of which, after grinding and roasting, to drive off as much as possible the excess of arsenic and sulphur, are dissolved in hydrochloric add, sometimes with the addition of a small quantity of nitric acid. The copper, lead, silver, arsenic, antimony, el cetera, are precipitated by sulphide of hydrogen, and to the filtered solution carbonate of lime is added in (he form of chalk, by which all the iron, alumina, and a trace ot cobalt are thrown down, the nickel and cobalt remaining in solution. To this solution which must ho hot and neutral, a solutien of bleaching powder is added in sufficient quantity to precipitate the cobalt, and the menstruum is then well boiled to remove the chlorine as fast as possible. The oxide of nickel is afterwards precipitated from the filtrate by the addition of hydrate of lime, and ebullition. [Pg.1204]

An example of industrial relevance is the removal of sulfur dioxide (S02) from vent gases by absorption into water or a lime slurry (48). In the water absorption process, both gas-film and liquid-film resistance to mass transfer occurs. As a result the overall mass transfer rate is proportional to gas-flow rate and acceleration but inversely proportional to liquid-flow rate. Due to the fast reaction of S02 with lime, this system is only gas-film diffusion limited. The overall mass transfer rate is largely unaffected by gas- or liquid-flow rate and is proportional to acceleration, but to a lesser extent than the water absorption process. In both cases the overall mass transfer rate is reportedly much higher than the corresponding conventional packed towers. [Pg.63]

The disinfestation chambers themselves already had a coat of lime paint. Why would they cover this coat of lime paint with another paint which, in addition, is not even lime fast They would therefore have had to wait until the lime paint and plaster had set before one could paint the walls. And then it would have been by no means certain that the paint would not furthermore have become stained as a result of chemical reactions. [Pg.269]
