The review of data and evaluation of the run for acceptance based on the criteria established during method validation can be found in Section 10.5.3, but in this section the instance considered is that when the analytical run fails prior to completion of the inj ection sequence or upon inspection of the data and it is apparent that there was a hardware or software failure of some kind. For events of this kind the system will need to be checked for performance to determine the nature of the failure, and repaired if necessary prior to resumption of any additional analyses. Examples for reasons why a run could fail prior to completion include hardware or computer failure, intermittent software failures, clogged injectors or broken syringes.

The number and severity of failures experienced by the equipment under study must be related to the operations of the facility. It would be inappropriate to assign the same operating histories to a continuously operating system and a system that operates intermittently. The number of hours in different operating modes (for example, 100% production versus shutdown) affect failure rate calculation and service description for taxonomy definition. 

A inatcrial s chemical properties, such as reactivity and coefficient of thermal expansion, can promote failure. Reactivity manifested in corrosion is a likely general cause of equipment failure. Evaporators and metering and control equipment are especially sensitive if tliey are in intermittent use where moisture might enter tlie system. 

The PDE3 inhibitor, cilostazol, has been used as an antithrombotic agent and is currently being used in patients being treated for intermittent claudication. Cilostazol is also used for the prevention of restenosis after treatments such as angioplasty. Another PDE3 selective inhibitor, milrinone, has been used in the treatment of congestive heart failure. Milrinone also has been shown to increase the conductance of the CFTR transporter in vitro.

Components can be treated as robustly packaged objects.25 This might mean that a component comes with a test kit, that it is designed to be fairly defensive against its interlocutors that do not observe the documented preconditions, that it executes in its own space, and that it can cope with intermittent failure of its neighbors. All the principles we have discussed hitherto are therefore just as applicable within a single programming space as they are between objects that are distributed all over the planet.
