The hydrocarbon gas feedstock and Hquid sulfur are separately preheated in an externally fired tubular heater. When the gas reaches 480—650°C, it joins the vaporized sulfur. A special venturi nozzle can be used for mixing the two streams (81). The mixed stream flows through a radiantly-heated pipe cod, where some reaction takes place, before entering an adiabatic catalytic reactor. In the adiabatic reactor, the reaction goes to over 90% completion at a temperature of 580—635°C and a pressure of approximately 250—500 kPa (2.5—5.0 atm). Heater tubes are constmcted from high alloy stainless steel and reportedly must be replaced every 2—3 years (79,82—84). Furnaces are generally fired with natural gas or refinery gas, and heat transfer to the tube coil occurs primarily by radiation with no direct contact of the flames on the tubes. Design of the furnace is critical to achieve uniform heat around the tubes to avoid rapid corrosion at "hot spots."... [Pg.30]

Tube-type. These separators are typically divided into two sections (I) precharging and (2) separation. The precharging section is designed to create or enhance the charge difference between particles to be separated (typically by some form of contact mechanism or external pretreatment to render one constituent positive or negative in comparison to the other materials present. The separation section consists of two vertical walls of tubes opposing each other. Each tube... [Pg.1803]

With a steam turbine, the turboeompressors ean be readily matehed to the different plant operating eonditions. Under eontinuous load, this type of installation is powered by the steam resulting from ammonia eombustion. Consequently, an outside steam supply is needed for startup. This may be a separate boiler or another external souree with live-steam properties not neeessarily eorresponding to those obtained from the nitrie aeid plant. The steam turbine must be of robust design beeause of the different pressure and temperature levels. [Pg.116]

NOTE LP coil boilers with integral recycle are designed with the drain from the water-steam separator recycled within the boiler feed circuits. LP coil boilers with external recycle are designed with the drain from the water-steam separator either being dumped or recycled to the FW tank. [Pg.593]

The total number of spatial coordinates for a molecule with Q nuclei and N electrons is 3(Q + N), because each particle requires three cartesian coordinates to specify its location. However, if the motion of each particle is referred to the center of mass of the molecule rather than to the external spaced-fixed coordinate axes, then the three translational coordinates that specify the location of the center of mass relative to the external axes may be separated out and eliminated from consideration. For a diatomic molecule (Q = 2) we are left with only three relative nuclear coordinates and with 3N relative electronic coordinates. For mathematical convenience, we select the center of mass of the nuclei as the reference point rather than the center of mass of the nuclei and electrons together. The difference is negligibly small. We designate the two nuclei as A and B, and introduce a new set of nuclear coordinates defined by... [Pg.269]

QA is an important aspect of any technical study. It is particularly crucial in an LSMBS, because several hundred participants, widely separated geographically, are involved. The analytical laboratories typically have standard provisions for QA inspections and reviews, and the field phase management organization is also likely to have standard provisions for QA inspection and review. Shoppers, however, are typically external to study management and analytical laboratories and, thus, are not directly covered by existing QA systems. The study design must include a means by which the field phase, i.e., sample collection and shipment by the shoppers, is made to comply with QA requirements. [Pg.246]
