Spatiotemporal accuracy—Required by tasks which place considerable demand on attainment of simultaneous spatial and temporal accuracy. This includes externally paced positional tasks such as tracking, driving a vehicle, flying a plane, ball games and sports, and video games. It should be stressed, however, that most self-paced tasks also involve a considerable interrelationship between space and time. 

Trigger and safety levels have been examined by Zoll et al. (1964) for external pacing of the heart. For TENS, single monophasic pulses of duration <1 ms FDA have set up the following values for the electric charge through the thorax (Table 10.3).

Externally paced activities—Work activities for which the worker does not have direct control of the rate of work. Externally paced work activities include activities which (1) the worker must keep up with an assembly line or an independently operating machine, (2) the worker must respond to a continuous queue (e.g., customers standing In line, phone calls at a switch). 

Newtonian behavior the rate of shear is small compared to the rate constant for the flow process. When molecular displacements occur very much faster than the rate of shear (7 < kj ), the molecules show maximum efficiency in dissipating the applied forces. When the molecules cannot move fast enough to keep pace with the external forces, they couple with and dissipate those forces to a lesser extent. Thus there is a decrease in viscosity from its upper, Newtonian limit with increasing 7/kj. The rate constant for the flow process is therefore seen to define a standard against which the rate of shear is to be judged large or small. In the next section we shall consider a molecular model in terms of which this rate constant can be analyzed.
