In the second phase of the development, the ability of property estimation of the network is examined with the data samples which are measured from the experimental process but never used in the training session. Based on the experimental data which were available for the trial, we trained and tested the ANN network to predict densities of FGM. Table 1 shows the comparison of measured and the network estimated densities of as-synthesized TiB2-Cu FGM using the Self-propagating High-temperature Synthesis (SHS) technique. The result indicates that the ANN network can give quite good estimations to the FGM properties. [Pg.67]

The first attempt was aimed to synthesize the different UHTCs by SHS according to reactions (l)-(6), when starting from simply blended powder mixtures. While the ZrB - and HfB -based systems were found to clearly exhibit a self-propagating behaviour, both TS and TTS compositions did not. This fact could be readily explained on the basis of the relatively lower heat of reactions (3) and (6) (cf. Table 3). Thus, the mechano-chemical activation of the related starting reactants under the conditions reported in the experimental section was required to induce the SHS character in the synthesis reactions. [Pg.285]

For other nitroxides, in particular TEMPO and other cyclic ones, side reaction of p-hydrogen transfer was shown to totally impede the achievement of a controlled polymerization and led to 100% of dead chains, all with a vinylidene-type terminal unsaturation. However, this difficulty did not prevent the synthesis of block copolymers, providing the first block was well controlled (i.e., PS) and the methacrylate monomer was polymerized in a second step. With SGI, the simation was more contrasted and acmally depended strongly on the concentration of free nitroxide in the system extensive self-terminations of the propagating radicals at low SGI concentration, predominant p-hydrogen transfer at high SGI concentration. In consequence, appropriate experimental conditions could not be found for the controlled homopolymerization of methacrylic esters. [Pg.300]
