There are three steps in the evolution of the classifier list (1) the identification of useful classifiers, (2) the creation of new classifiers that may be of value, and (3) the removal of classifiers that serve no useful purpose. The major difficulty in any functional brain studies is inter-subject comparisons. Essentially, all NIR functional brain studies report high variability between subjects. Instead, each subject is compared with their own baseline measurements. However, generally speaking, the shape of the time evolution of the signals are similar between subjects and thus can be analyzed using qualitative comparisons.
