Evaluation of stocks

Evaluation of Dark-colored Stocks for Lubricants The evaluation of stocks that contain asphalt demands a more elaborate laboratory procedure. Such a stock must be subjected to preliminary distillations. The stock is first reduced by a steam distillation at atmospheric pressure to approximately 26 API (Fig. 4-27). The removal of gasoline and kerosene is necessary because these materials cannot be condensed in the subsequent vacuum-flash distillation that is necessary for the removal of tar. [Pg.123]

Although distillation and elemental analysis of the fractions provide a good evaluation of the qualities of a crude oil, they are nevertheless insufficient. Indeed, the numerous uses of petroleum demand a detailed molecular analysis. This is true for all distillation fractions, certain crude oils being valued essentially for their light fractions used in motor fuels, others because they make quality lubricating oils and still others because they make excellent base stocks for paving asphalt. [Pg.39]

A prototype is a 3-D model suitable for use in the preliminary testing and evaluation of a product (also used for modeling a die, mold and other tool). It provides a means to evaluate the product s performances before going into production. The ideal situation is for the prototype to be the actual product made in production. However machining stock material and using rapid prototype techniques can make prototypes (Chapter 4, BOOK SHELVES). [Pg.178]

Stock Solution Stability. The stability of stock solutions of drug and the internal standard should be evaluated at room temperature for at least 6 h. If the stock solutions are refrigerated or frozen for the relevant period, the stability should be documented. After completion of the desired storage time, the stability should be tested by comparing the instrument response with that of freshly prepared solutions. [Pg.114]

Many licensors and contractors who must obtain data from which to design and build solvent extraction plants utilize large, elaborate pilot plants which simulate commercial plant conditions. Many refiners have constructed such plants to obtain data from which to guide commercial equipment and prepare samples for engine test evaluations. Plants of this sort cost 200 to 300 daily to operate. An evaluation of a single stock may require weeks and cost thousands of dollars. [Pg.195]

Another consideration which affects the value of an asset is the currency that is used to pay for it cash, equity or goodwill. Equity in place of cash can either be a compelling offer or quite the opposite. On many occasions when evaluating the value of a potential acquisition target the value of a cash bid compared to the headline value that other companies were prepared to offer in the form of shares in their own company made poor comparison. The acquisition of Agouron by Warner-Lambert in 1999 was one of several deals at the time which were funded by an offer of stock of the acquiring company. [Pg.104]

F F) is the normalized distribution of decay constants of the scatterers in suspension. Given G(r) it is necessary to invert equation (10.42) in order to determine F jT). Unfortunately, the inversion is ill-posed in that there are an infinite number of distributions which satisfy this equation within the experimental error to be found in G( r). A large number of algorithms have been suggested for the inversion and an evaluation of their performance can be found in Stock and Ray [279]. [Pg.592]
