European article number

A spinoff from the UPC bar code is the European Article Numbering (EAN) bar code system. EAN numbers are based on the UPC bar code guidelines. For distribution outside North America, these bar codes are unique and different in the number of characters per code and the computer data base related to each code. [Pg.89]

Some of the information required may be in the form of bar codes. This has stimulated the European Pressure Sensitive Manufacturers Association (EPMSA) in line with the Article Numbering Association (ANA) EAN guidelines, to produce a standard for bar code overprinting on pressure sensitive labels. EAN bar codes can now be successfully printed onto labels using flexographies, or thermal transfer printing. [Pg.125]

It is announced in this short article that the European Commission has voted for no further restrictions on the marketing and utilisation of cadmium pigments to colour plastics, thereby halting the trend of recent years in reducing the number of applications in which these pigments are permitted. The Board is pleased to note that the number of parties that have already invoked article 12, paragraph 10 (a), of the 1988 Convention, continues to grow. Since the report of the Board for 2003 on the implementation of article 12 was issued, the Government of Egypt has requested to receive preexport notifications for all substances in Table I and acetone, and the request of the European Commission on behalf of the States members of the European Union for pre-export notifications for all substances in Table I of 19 May 2000 has been extended to the 10 new States upon their accession to the European Union on 1 May 2004. [Pg.5]

As at 1 November 2004, 40 countries and two territories had requested such pre-export notifications pursuant to article 12, paragraph 10 (a), of the 1988 Convention. In addition, the European Commission has invoked that article on behalf of all States members of the European Union, bringing the total number of Governments that have made use of that provision (including the 25 States members of the European Union), to 67. Of those, the Governments of... [Pg.5]

In Europe, of course, it was difficult to show such disregard for market laws. The views of the European Economic Community Commission in Brussels had to be taken into account, and they upheld the principle of free competition as set down in article 85 of the Rome Treaty. Moreover, in Western Europe there were a number of petrochemical industries that operated according to the rules of private capitalism while there were others, as in France, Italy, Austria, Norway, and Finland, that were state-controlled and more concerned about retaining market share than ensuring profitability. [Pg.3]

But, as it happens in most countries, the number of simples occasionally employed in practice is much greater than it suits the proper compass of a Pharmacopoeia to contain. In the present work, those native articles have been introduced which were considered to possess qualities sufficiently important, or which were found to be so much employed by practitioners, as to give them any claim to the character of standard medicines. In several instances native plants have been substituted for European ones of the same genus, where their qualities were esteemed the same. [Pg.21]
