Ethylene oxide tank cars

Small shipments of ethylene oxide are made in either compressed gas cylinders up to -0.1 m3 (30 gal) or in 1A1 steel drums (61 gal). Very large shipments >40 m3 (10,000—25,000 gal) are made in insulated, type 105J100W or other DOT approved tank cars. For further information on the shipping and handling of ethylene oxide, see References 9 and 227. [Pg.462]

Ethylene oxide is stored in an outside cool area below 30°C (86°E), provided with a water-spray system, and isolated from combustible materials such as acids, bases, chlorides, oxides, and metallic potassium. Protect against physical damage. Avoid inside storage. Shipping should be done in steel cylinders, drums, and insulated tank cars. [Pg.361]

Ethylene oxide is authorized for shipment in cylinders, special containers, portable tanks, and single-unit tank cars. [Pg.362]

The maximum filling densities authorized for ethylene oxide under present regulations are In cylinders, such that the container will not be liquid lull below 180°F (82°C) in lAl steel drums, such that the container will not be liquid full below 185°F (85°C) in tank cars complying with TC/DOT specification 105J such that the tank will not be liquid full at 105°F (41°C) in portable tanks complying with TC/DOT specification 51 such that the tank will not be liquid full at 115°F (46X). See 49 CFR 173.323 [8]. [Pg.362]

Ethylene oxide is authorized for shipment in single-unit tank cars complying with DOT 105J specification and special requirements in 49 CFR 173.323 and CAN/CGSB-43.147-94, Construction and Maintenance of Tank Car Tanks... [Pg.362]
