Ethylene glycol solution

Liquid Sorption. If a moist gas is passed through sprays of a liquid sorbent, such as lithium chloride or an ethylene glycol solution, moisture is removed from the air at a rate depending on the vapor pressure difference. This is a function of the absorbent concentration and is maintained at the required level by a regeneration cycle. The regeneration process is continuous and is achieved by allowing a percentage of the chemical into the exhaust-heated air.

Soldered brass seldom gives trouble. In radiators, antifreeze solutions have been alleged to cause corrosion, possibly because materials such as ethylene glycol sometimes detach protective deposits. Sodium nitrite, valuable as a corrosion inhibitor for other metals in a radiator, tends to attack solders, but sodium benzoate is safe and, in addition, protects the soldered joint against the action of nitrites. In an investigation of other inhibitors in ethylene glycol solutions, 1% borax, either alone or in combination with 0-1% mercaptobenzothiazole, appeared to be satisfactory.

Contact of aqueous ethylene glycol solutions with d.c.-energised silvered copper wires causes ignition of the latter. In order to obtain information on the electron relaxation time in copper aqua ion, measurements should not be performed in water solution, because the correlation time for proton relaxation is in that case the reorientational time, which is much smaller than T g. NMRD profiles should be actually acquired in ethylene glycol solution and at temperatures lower that room temperature, so that the reorientational time increases one two orders of magnitude (see Section II.B). In this way T e of the order of 10 s can be estimated. 

Recently, Japaridze etal. [170] have investigated adsorption of some aromatic compounds, including naphthalene, naphthonitrile, naphthylamine, anthracene, and phenathrene at the mercury electrode I ethylene glycol solution interface. The analysis of the differential capacity data obtained at the HMDE has revealed that adsorption of the above-mentioned compounds obeys the Frumkin model, with attractive interactions of the particles in the adsorption layer. The results for ethylene glycol were compared with those for other nonaqueous solvents and their role in determining the adsorption mode was discussed.

Anthracene can be selectively oxidized to anthraquinone by molecular oxygen in the presence of copper(II) bromide in an ethylene glycol solution. Ethylene glycol (EG) acts as a bidendate ligand for copper and prevents the formation of bromoanthracene as a by-product (equation 267).596...
