Ethic student safety

The Four Principles of Safety Discusses the importance of safety in the laboratory and introduces the four principles of safety and the student safety ethic. 

We conclude this introduction to safety with a key element to guide you in the undergraduate laboratory—the student safety ethic f In Section 1.3.2 we will introduce the the safety ethic, which expands the student safety ethic to include a full range of topics for practicing chemists and researchers. 

We encourage you to adopt the student safety ethic I work safely, avoid unnecessary risk, and accept responsibility for safety. This is a simple statement but it has broad implications and defines broad actions to implement (see Figure 1.1.1.4).

This book is designed to progressively teach you many topics about safety over the course of several years. But, it all begins with the right attitude, which is embedded in the student safety ethic. 

The radioactive effluent stream from a newly constraeted nuelear power plant must be made to conform with Nuclear Regulatory Commission standards. Students use chemical reaction engineering and creative problem solving to propose solutions for the treatment of the reactor effluent. Foeus problem analysis, safety, ethics. 

Students Need for Better Ethics Competency. One gap analysis theme accumulates around the issues of the legal and ethical competencies of mechanical engineering education. Students reported the need for more training in reliability (40%), safety (37%), leadership (32%), conflict resolutions (26%), business ethics (24%), and legal information (22%). 

Figure 1.5 provides just a sample of Center case studies dealing with public safety and welfare. The Center also sponsors conferences, addresses the ABET Readiness Committee call for a Guide to Ethics for Dummies, and provides sample student assignments, from freshman to senior level, on practical ethics for use by instructors.
