In 56 women (18-20 weeks gestation), treated at the Marie Stopes Chnic in Jodhpur, India, who underwent termination of pregnancy with 0.1% ethacridine lactate 150 ml injected into the intrauterine extra-amniotic space and in whom intravenous oxytocin was used to expedite the dehvery of the abortus, ethacridine lactate induced successful abortion in 52 cases (1). Abortion failure occurred in the other four cases because of transverse lie of fetus (n = 2), cervical dystocia (n = 1), and uterine inertia (n = 1). In 41 women the abortion occurred at 12-24 hours after induction (mean 20 hours) which was shorter than that of previous reports (29.5-38 hours). There were complications in six cases three women had cervical tears and three had incomplete expulsion. There was one case each of severe bleeding and vaginal laceration. There were no cases of sepsis. The authors concluded that ethacridine lactate performed better than other instillation abortion methods. [Pg.1282]

In a prospective, placebo-controUed study, tannin albuminate 500 mg plus ethacridine lactate 50 mg was given to 30 patients with Crohn s disease and chronic diarrhea for 5 days, followed by a 5-day break, and then a further 5 days treatment (2). Stool frequency was significantly reduced, albeit by only a small amount, with an improvement in the consistency of the stools. [Pg.1282]

Treatment of sodium nitroprusside with ethacridine lactate (I) pelds a yellow, almost insoluble precipitate of l2Fe(CN)sNO. This reaction is applicable as a spot test for nitroprussides. [Pg.281]

Procedure. A drop of the test solution is mixed with a drop of an ethacridine lactate solution in a micro test tube. A yellow precipitate or turbidity indicates the presence of nitroprusside. [Pg.281]

Diverse organic compounds may be determined by indirect iodometry. We give only one example here, that of ethacridine lactate, whose determination is described in the european pharmacopeia. [Pg.344]

The compound is precipitated by an excess of a standardized solution of potassium bichromate. The excess bichromate is titrated by adding sodium iodide. The liberated iodine is titrated by thiosulfate. Thus, the quantitative reaction exhibited by ethacridine lactate is not a redox reaction. It is a precipitation reaction. [Pg.346]
