Estrogens vasopressin

Nondialytic therapies that may temporarily shorten increased bleeding time include cryoprecipitate, desmopressin (l-deamino-8-D-arginine vasopressin), and estrogens. 

In order to review these putative relationships it is first useful to define a subset of well-characterized hormones and neurotransmitters that have been implicated in behavior. The chemicals selected for discussion here are among those for which a robust relationship with behavior has been proposed, including steroids (estrogens, progestins, androgens and glucocorticoids), proteins (prolactin) and the neuropeptides (oxytocin and vasopressin). All of these chemicals may act as hormones, neurotransmitters and/or neuromodulators. In addition, to understand the action of these hormones, it is helpful to be familiar with some of the more common neurotransmitters (described below). Space does not permit a discussion of the behavioral effects of many additional compounds with endocrine or paracrine properties.

Animal hormones essentially fall into four different chemical classes (1) amine-derived hormones, (2) peptide/protein hormones, (3) steroid hormones, and (4) lipid or phospholipid hormones. Amine-derived hormones such as catecholamines and thyroxine are derivatives of the amino acids tyrosine and tryptophan. Peptide hormones including insulin, growth hormone, and vasopressin consist of polypeptides ranging in length from 5 to 200 residues. Steroid hormones such as estrogen... 

Oxytocin, as well as dopamine, norepinephrine, androgens, estrogens, and vasopressin, is related to the sex drive and sexual arousal, is secreted during sex, and is associated with feelings of love, altruism, warmth, calmness, bonding, tenderness, togetherness, and bodily contact. 

Serotonin also affects the emotions of love and romance. Androgens, estrogens, oxytocin, and vasopressin increase the sex drive, whereas increased levels of synaptic serotonin, such as result from the taking of reuptake transporter inhibitors, suppress the sex drive and inhibit feelings of attraction by the opposite sex. Dopamine and norepinephrine increase the sex drive. 

The seeds of Vaccaria segetalis (Caryophyllaceae) have been used to stimulate blood flow and promote milk secretion, and also to treat amenorrhea and breast infections in China (224). Extraction and purification of chemical constituents showing follicle hormonic activity led to the isolation of the new, bioactive cyclic peptides segetalins A-H (322-329) (225-228). Some segetalins showed potent estrogen-like activity. Although some cyclic peptides such as oxytocin and vasopressin show hormone activities, none show estrogen-like activity.
