Error log

A trained operator then executes the protocols. If events or data that do not match the expected results are observed, then an error log must be written. The error log details the issue and its resolution. Proper retesting of a failed protocol can then occur. Following completion of the execution of the protocols, customer signoff is again required.

All quality systems need to demonstrate that the equipment used is properly maintained and in some instanees ealibrated. Computers are no exception to this. Another feature of many automated video measurement instruments is the ability to set operational limits and parameters that if exceeded—are brought to the attention of an operator. In this way, operator involvement is required only if the monitored signal varies from certain preset limits. Figure 20.40 shows an example error log. 

Failure to verify the backup. Most tape backup systems write to the tape but never read the tape to see if anything has actually been written. A perfectly clean error log does not guarantee that any actual data was written to the tape. All backup systems have a verification option. If this is turned on, it will take about three times longer to actually do the backup, but the data on the tape will be verified as correct. 

If the backup system has problems during the backup process it records these problems in the error log. Nobody bothers to read the error log, which is erased the next time a backup occurs (and all record of the problems is conveniently destroyed). 

Require that the error log for each backup be printed and initialed by the employee responsible for making the backup. This guarantees that the error log has been read. 

Check your web server s error log carefully. The most likely culprit is a missing Perl module you should also check that the GeneDesign. git/cgi-bin/gd folder has executable permissions and that the GeneDesign.git/documents/ gd/ tmp folder is world writable.
