All selected species showed different behavior towards different dormancy breaking treatments (Figure 1-8). Solarium incanum and S. melongena showed response to maximum number of treatments, whereas response of Datura innoxia recorded only for a few treatments. Nitrate solution of sodium and calcium with two different concentrations were used in this experiment and it was found that these treatments produced the rapid germination but reduced the percentage germination of species. Treatments of 0.5% nitrates of sodium and calcium resulted in germination of all species used in experiment. But S. incanum, S. torvum, H. pusillus and W coagulans did not show any response to treatment of 1% nitrate of sodium. Similarly S. torvum, S. melongena, S. erianthum and D. innoxia remained inert by the treatment of 1% nitrates of calcium. [Pg.83]

The EO of Solanum erianthum D. Don and Solarium macranthum Dunal (Solanaceae) were tested for their in vitro cytotoxic effects. S. erianthum showed inhibitory effects against Hs 578T (human breast ductal carcinoma) cells and PC-3 (human prostate carcinoma) cells. Fruit oil of S. macranthum exhibited anticancer activity against Hs 578T cells by 78% (Essien et ah, 2012). [Pg.301]
