Bulk alum can be stored in mild steel or concrete bins with dust collector vents located in, above, or adjacent to the equipment room. Recommended storage capacity is about 30 days. Dry alum in bulk form can be transferred or metered by means of screw conveyors, pneumatic conveyors, or bucket elevators made of mild steel. Pneumatic conveyor elbows should have a reinforced backing as the alum can contain abrasive impurities. 

In areas where electrical equipment is exposed to contaminants, the selection of equipment whose contacts are oil-immersed or hermetically sealed can increase reliability and equipment life. Similarly, providing environmentally-controlled equipment rooms can greatly increase equipment life at locations where contaminants are prevalent. In offshore and other areas exposed to salt, type 316 stainless steel is often preferred over types 303 and 304, which will pit with time. Likewise, in similar locations, equipment fabricated from galvanized steel will corrode much more rapidly than equipment hot-dip galvanized after fabrication.

Most supercritical fluid equipment use CO2 non toxic, non flammable, it is particularly safe. However, CO2 build-up in closed rooms could lead to people asphyxia. It is the reason why all possible CO2 emissions (exit valves, safety valves, rupture disks,...) must be collected in a "over-dimensioned" vent line ensuring a good dispersion of the gas in the outside atmosphere. Moreover, it is highly recommended to install CO2 detectors in the equipment room but also in any connex room, for action on high power fans and operators information.
