Environmental management certification

Guidelines for Certification to ISO 9001 - Health, Safety and Environmental Management Systems (and BS7750 -Environmental Management Systems) in the Chemical Industry (1992)... [Pg.554]

The following applies to ISO 14001 and other environmental management standards Certification is not a must requirement for "Certified Chemical Leasing". However, TOY SLJD s criteria catalogues for Chemical Leasing also include key elements of the ISO 14001 standard. [Pg.115]

Special Features. ISO is the most widely used environmental management process standard worldwide. ISO 14000 certification is seen as evidence of environmentally responsible management, especially important where regulatory standards may not be consistently enforced. [Pg.499]

As described earlier, ISO 14000 is a voluntary standard for environmental management systems. It does NOT require compliance with the regulations of the country in which the company is located. In some countries, it is possible that regulations may be more stringent than the standard. It seems likely, however, that in some countries achieving certification of adherence to the standard would improve the quality of environmental practices in that country. If, as expected, many countries adopt laws that require imported products to have been produced by companies certified to be adhering to ISO 14000, then environmental practices will almost certainly be improved worldwide. [Pg.924]

EMS discussion of recognised environmental management systems is limited to ISO 14001, and worldwide only 11 out of 170 production sites are certified to ISO 14001. Even so, a yes score has been awarded since there is a continuing improving trend, with the recent certification of sites in Thailand, Germany and Morocco. [Pg.153]

EMS the CER states that all BOC businesses are working to implement our international Environmental Management System standards . The intention to work to a recognised EMS is clearly demonstrated, since in 1997 four sites were certified to ISO 14001, and the 1999 annual report states during the year a further seven sites have achieved certification to ISO 14001 . [Pg.161]

Annual report a copy of the annual report and the CER were received. As well as presenting the financial statements the annual report contains a business review in which some environmental highlights are reported. These mention certification of several sites to ISO 14001 and the conclusion of a marketing agreement for a low ozone-depleting solvent. There is also a separate section on HS E issues, which includes safety figures, reports on environmental management and describes Elf Atochem s approach to product stewardship. [Pg.223]

EMS there is a stated aim to equip all plants with environmental management systems conforming to ISO 14001 or equivalent by the end of 2001 . To date 14 sites have received external certification. It is also stated that the 15 sites in the USA apply procedures complying with the country s laws and their own Responsible Care programs . It is unclear whether this includes auditing under the management verification system. [Pg.323]

The SRS CMP also aims to ensure that the core elements of the ISMS are adopted at each process or activity level. Safety is of utmost importance to SRS employees, as evidenced by the VPP Star status granted by DOE-HQ in 2000 for the quality of the DOE-Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) at SRS. Also, SRS received certification under the ISO I400I, Environmental Management Systems -Specification with Guidance for Use program in 1997. [Pg.115]

ISO-14000 certification The first international standard for environmental-quality management. It is not a compliance standard but consists of voluntary guidehnes for constructing a management system from start to finish to ensure that objectives for environmental compliance are set and met. Plant certification wiU provide evidence of proactive environmental management and wiU reduce their exposure to lawsuits and regulatory problems. See plastics cradle-to-grave. [Pg.325]

Like many other industries, there is an urgent need for the textile and apparel sectors to follow environmental standards and regulations for preventing environmental damage. This chapter will first discuss the current environmental situation and life cycle analysis of the textile and clothing industry. Then environmental standards and environmental management systems wiU be discussed briefly. The chapter concludes with a discussion of eco-labelling and certification of textiles and apparel. [Pg.126]

ISO/IEC 17021 2011 contains principles and requirements for the competence, consistency and impartiality of the audit and certification of management systems of all types (e.g., quality management systems or environmental management systems) and for bodies providing these activities. [Pg.545]
