Enlarging pores

The author has observed enhanced improvement of oily skin, enlarged pores, and acne vulgaris with the use of salicylic acid peels compared with glycolic acid peels. Possible mechanisms for this observation include salicylic acid s effect on lipid solubility and microcome-odone formation. 

The activated samples exhibit different textural properties. The apparent densities decrease significantly in accordance with the degree of activation, from 1.3 to 0.6 g cm for PC 12 and PC76, respectively. This means that the activation process creates and/or enlarges pores, thereby producing carbon materials that are more porous. 

The modern makeup base, in liquid, cream, or cake form, must provide a quality finish, adequate coverage, and appropriate pigmentation. Consumer selection of foundation makeup should be based on skin type (e.g., presence of scars, enlarged pores, uneven skin tones, etc.), degree of sebum production ( oiliness ), skin color (e.g., sallow yellow, ruddy red, or neutral), and depth of skin color (light, medium, or dark). General types of materials used in most foundation makeups may be classified as part of the powder phase, aqueous phase, polyol phase, or oil phase.

Enlarging pore size of gels properly (for capillary pressure is inversely proportional to the radius of pores) and making it uniformly (uneven pore size of gels leads to different capillary pressure and damage of the nanostructure)... 

Acne vulgaris, enlarged pores, rough and oily skin, melasma, postinflammatory hyperpigmentation, and photoaging (Fig. 22.2a, b). 

In all the foregoing discussions, it is seen that aging and thermal treatments result in a one-way process loss of specific surface area and increase in pore size. The pore size can be enlarged also by dissolving away some of the silica. Neimark and Slinyakova (279) report that treating gel with 0.5 N KOH or dilute HF can enlarge pores from 7 to 37 A or 37 to 47 A. If silica were dissolved away evenly from all the surface, there should be an increase in specific surface. However, it is probable that regions of lower radius Q curvature will dissolve more rapidly so that the specific area may actually decrease.
