Apparent densities

Suspension Polymers. Methacrylate suspension polymers are characterized by thek composition and particle-size distribution. Screen analysis is the most common method for determining particle size. Melt-flow characteristics under various conditions of heat and pressure are important for polymers intended for extmsion or injection molding appHcations. Suspension polymers prepared as ion-exchange resins are characterized by thek ion-exchange capacity, density (apparent and wet), solvent sweUing, moisture holding capacity, porosity, and salt-spHtting characteristics (105). [Pg.270]

Zirconium Tetra-n-butylate. Zirconium tetra- -butoxide [1071-76-7] Zr(OC4H2)4 mol wt 383.7, is a colorless soHd, melting point, 134°C (95). The commercial product contains about 28% Zr02 and butanol it is a yellow-brown Hquid, density (apparent), d ° = 1.07 g/mL solidification point below —70°C bp, 260°C at 10 Pa (0.075 mm Hg) flammable, flash point 21°C soluble in hydrocarbons. [Pg.27]

For porous solids such as coal, there are five different density measurements true density, apparent density, particle density, bulk density, and in-place density. The true density of coal is the mass divided by the volume occupied by the actual, pore-free solid in coal. However, determining mass of coal may be deemed as being rather straightforward, but determining volume presents some difficulties. Volume, as the word pertains to a solid, cannot be expressed universally in a simple definition. Indeed, the method used to determine volume experimentally, and subsequently, the density, must be one that applies measurement rules consistent with the adopted definition. [Pg.112]

The dependence of Kss on sorbed SDS levels appears to be qualitatively consistent with proposed surfactant structures at mineral surfaces (Fuerstenau and Wakamatsu, 1975 Holsen et al., 1991 Chandar et al., 1987). For example, the configuration of adsorbed SDS in Region I is expected to be different from that in Regions II and III, where micelle-like structures are thought to exist at these relatively higher sorption densities. Apparently, these differences in sorbed surfactant structure that result from regional sorption mechanisms and sorption densities lead to regional differences in Kss values. [Pg.203]

A comparison of true particle density, apparent particle density, and bulk density can provide information on total porosity, interparticle porosity, and intraparticle porosity. Methods include true particle density measurements via helium pycnometry, mercury intrusion porosimetry, and poured and tapped bulk density. [Pg.3643]
