The limitations imposed by a static catalyst bed design imposed a major obstacle, particularly in the formation of carbon deposits that fouled the catalyst mass and impeded a continuous system of production. 

In addition, project data indicate that a well-integrated EEL team can produce significantly better project performance in terms of lower capital investment, as compared to projects where EEL teams were not properly integrated. This illustrates the benefits for each engineering team member working closely together with each other team member, to produce the most profitable project results.

Sometimes the special nature of pharmaceutical manufacturing plant projects clouds the fact that building such a plant is in fact a construction project. The facility engineering team of a small to medium company may be tempted to turn away from such projects due to the projects perceived uniqueness and leave the key decision making to others. In fact, it is the construction experience of that team that is most required to keep the project costs under control. The way to accomplish this is for the team to be involved in the process from its earliest stages.
