Engineering data management

It has been a common practice for different departments in a company have different understandings of product families from their specific perspectives. Such incoherence in semantics and subseqnent deployment of information represents a formidable hindrance to enrrent engineering data management systems (EDBS) (Kranse et al. 1993). It is necessary to maintain different perspectives of prodnct family representation in a single context. In addition, variety originates from the functional domain and propagates across the entire product-development process. Therefore, the representation of product families should characterize various forms of variation at different stages of product development. [Pg.691]

Such shared CAD systems use a common database. This is usually accessible from the individual CAD stations through a client-server architecture (Figure 26). Usually an Engineering Data Management System (EDMS), implemented in conjunction with a CAD system, is used. [Pg.2860]

Most clinical data management systems used for clinical trials today store their data in relational database software such as Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server. A relational database is composed of a set of rectangular data matrices called tables that relate or associate with one another by certain key fields. The language most often used to work with relational databases is structured query language (SQL). The SAS/ACCESS SQL Pass-Through Facility and the SAS/ACCESS LIBNAME engine are the two methods that SAS provides for extracting data from relational databases. [Pg.42]

In the new field of genetic engineering, scientific data management software is used to manage the long alphabetic codes that represent genetic sequences, as well as more traditional numeric and text applications. At Genentech, scientists use the software for these tasks as well as for laboratory data analysis. [Pg.30]
